Sulom says not aware of Bafana, Flames friendly

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) says it is not aware of the friendly international match involving Malawi’s Flames and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana slated for Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on December 22, 2012.

The league has since released TNM Super League fixtures for the next two weeks which show some of the teams that have been contributing more players to the national team will be involved in action.

Sulom general secretary Williams Banda, speaking in an interview with Nyasa Times said the league has not been informed about the friendly, meaning the games will go as scheduled.

“We have not been told anything by Fam and we are proceeding with the fixtures as scheduled. May be they (Fam) haven’t come to us because they know the friendly does not fall on Fifa calendar date,” said Banda.

Meanwhile, Fam has released a squad for the Bafana friendly comprising both local and foreign based players.

According to the list, no local side has contributed four or more players to the national squad, meaning all teams that have been given games during the period of the friendly match will be obliged to fulfill the fixtures.

However, there are likely to be angry reactions from teams like Mighty Wanderers, which has contributed three players- namely Foster Namwera, Moses Chavula and Joseph Kamwendo to the traveling squad.

The Nomads are scheduled to play Moyale Barracks and Kabwafu in Mzuzu on December 22 and 23 respectively and are likely to be reluctant to travel to the north without those three key players.

Blue Eagles, Silver Strikers and Big Bullets, which have also contributed key players to the national team have been scheduled to play league games during the same period.
