SUNBIRD DONATES K27 MILLION WORTH OF RELIEF ITEMS TO DODMA AND RED CROSS

Sunbird Hotels and Resorts has donated essential relief items valued at over K27 million to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) and the Red Cross to assist approximately 250 families affected by recent floods across Malawi.

The donation includes bags of maize, blankets, 20-litre buckets, sugar, soya pieces, and water purification solutions.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Wednesday, Head of Sales, Marketing and Distribution, Temwa Kanjadza, expressed concern over the devastating effects of the ongoing heavy rainfall season, which has led to flooding in several parts of the country.

“We are deeply concerned by the devastating impact of the heavy rainfall season, which has affected families and communities across various districts in Malawi. As a local brand rooted in the nation, Sunbird Hotels and Resorts remains committed to supporting communities during times of crisis,” she said.

Kanjadza added that the donation reflects the company’s solidarity with those affected, acknowledging their resilience during this difficult period.

“These relief items are a small token of our support. We hope they will help ease the burden as affected families begin to recover and rebuild their lives,” she added.

The initiative highlights Sunbird’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable community development, as well as its support for government-led disaster response efforts.

Commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs, Wilson Moleni, expressed gratitude to Sunbird for the timely intervention and assured that the donated items would reach the intended beneficiaries.

He noted that the floods have resulted in loss of life and property, leaving many families displaced and in urgent need of assistance in relief camps.
