Tay Grin begins  international tour: To perform in Iceland, Ireland, South Africa and USA

Malawi’s award-winning rapper Tay Grin (born Libani Kalirani), who impressed during the Mafikizolo show on Friday, begins his tour of Europe, South Africa and United  States.

On Friday, Tay Grin – fondly called the Nyau King by his fans – seized the opportunity to give out his best at Bingu Conference International Centre in Lilongwe.

His performance dominated conversation on social media: “Yesterday [Friday] I went to see Mafikizolo … they have won several awards … they are very good. However it was their opening act, a Malawian artist called Tay Grin that was most surprising and impressive to me.

“A lot has been said about Tay Grin … so I had to see his show myself. What I was met with is how I see a true Malawian trail blazer at his very best. The show was less a musical performance and more a master-class on how to make an eclectic group of people move together, synchronised to make joy … I now see why Tay continues to put Malawi on the African and global scales with tunes we used to listen to as kids,” wrote Noel Musicha on Facebook.

But all that is now in the past as Tay Grin looks to impress once more with a number of performance in Iceland, Ireland, South Africa and United States of America.

According to a statement issued by Black Rhyno Entertainment, Tay Grin is expected to share the stage with American hip-hop artist Rick Ross during this year’s Secret Solstice Festival 2017 in Reykjavik, Iceland that will take place from 16-18th June, 2017.

Tay Grin, who will perform at the festival on June 17, is the first Malawian to perform at the festival which is in its fourth year.

From Iceland, Tay Grin will perform in Johannesburg on June 24 and Pretoria on June 25.

He will fly to United States of America to perform in Dallas, Texas on July 1 and South Bend, Indiana on July 8. Tay Grin will finish his tour with a performance on July 29 in Ireland.

Tay Grin has won a number of local and international awards which include Channel O’s Best Collabo or Duo 2009 with the video ‘My Type of Guy’ which features Buffalo Souljah, Gal Level and DJ Waxxy; voted 2014 Most Influential Person by Hub Magazine UK; in 2014, Tay Grin won a Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (BEFFTA) award for Best International African Act; in 2016 he won BEFFTA Star Award in the music category, Malawian urban artist and best video (UMP) and 2016 WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards Best Traditional Video award with Chipapapa which features Nigeria’s 2baba; and in 2017 he won three awards Best Male, Best Live and Best Video in the Nyasa Music Awards.
