Tay Grin speaks to the media about his role

Tay Grin and Astro Mobile’s agreement is a result of their shared values in African culture and the motivation to better the lives of Africans by providing a platform for the citizens to communicate easily.

Tay Grin said it was a great honour to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with such a big company as their brand Ambassador honouring the influence and the passion he has in promoting the culture of people in the country and Africa as a whole.

“I have signed the memorandum of understanding and i value this opportunity because it will help us to work together in promoting the living standards of people,” he said.

Tay Grin explained that this would continue to boost his recognition in his music career and his passion in reaching out to people.

The Nyau King added that this is an inspiration to both his career and his life as he was inspired by Astro’s founder, a young innovative entrepreneur Munyaradzi Gwatidzo who runs a multimillion dollar company and has won a wide range of prestigious awards, a role model for the youth.

He added he was comfortable working with Astro because both his brand and the company share the same value of culture in promoting people’s culture and that he is fully committed and will reach out as a brand ambassador and bring out the best that is expected.

Tay Grin said he would enhance it with other brand Ambassadors across the global and raise Astros flag high.

“I would fly the flag high as I represent my country and Astro. I promise the best and that this would go a long way inspiring young people across the globe,” he promised.

Astro Mobile Manager, Micheal Gova said Tay’s passion for Malawian culture is unprecedented and could be heard in his musical and lyrical prowess and also seen in his appearance and his actions.

“Tay Grin was chosen as brand Ambassador due to his strong influence amongst the youth, his huge social media following that presents a successful commercialized African brand which any progressive business entity cannot ignore,” he stressed.

Gova said Astro defines itself as an Afrocentric mobile and electronic solutions provider and the Tay brand is a proudly Afrocentric one that makes them a perfect match.

Astro Mobile saw its light in the country end January, 2016 and continues to penetrate in the local market currently with four brands of smart phones.

Owned by a Zimbabwean entrepreneur, Munyaradzi Gwatidzo 32, founded Astro Mobile Africa in 2012 with the vision of giving millions of African citizens access to mobile lifestyle and linking them to digital economy.

Gova said Astro is the home of the fastest growing consumer brands in Africa providing affordable, yet high quality smart phones that are designed for the needs of people across Africa and employing over 2000 people with branches in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mauritius, Tanzania and South Africa.

“We ship 4 million devices a year across Africa and we aim at transforming our business into the leading provider of converged mobile, internet and electronic solutions hence involving Tay because of his connections across the continent,” he disclosed.

The brand Ambassador, Tay Grin was again this year recognized by chiefs with a Chewa heritage Award and his recent hit Tola has been nominated for All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) and says sees a bright future in his career.
