Thousand mourners attend funeral of Cavalry Church’s Kanjero

The funeral of  a Choir member  of Cavalry Family Church Chikondi Kanjelo took place on Monday at HHI Cemetery  in Blantyre with thousands people in attendance.

Kanjelo was one of the supporting artists for visiting Nigerian gospel  singer of the ‘God is good’ fame Uche-Chukwu Agu.

The former Joshua Generations young and upcoming musician died on Saturday night, 19 May after a min-bus they were travelling in burst its left back tyre at Phalula in Balaka District before overturning.

According to the family members, Chikondi left Blantyre for the capital city of Malawi, Lilongwe with his friends as supporting artists for Agu.

“They had a show on Saturday, and they agreed to depart for Blantyre the same day in the evening because they were supposed to have a similar show at Robins Park in Blantyre the following day. They left Lilongwe at 6, o’clock and around 9, o’clock it is when we received a phone call that Chikondi was involved in a road accident,” said the family member in his eulogy.

It was reported that the min-bus in which they were travelling in burst a left back tyre at Phalula Trading Centre forcing it to lose control before it overturned almost three times.

“Some Samaritans, who were travelling on the same road, stopped and rushed the   injured people to Balaka District Hospital where Chikondi was pronounced dead while the rest two were referred to Zomba Hospital where they are until now,” he said.

The relation said Chikondi was “our ray of sunshine .”

He added,  Chikondi’s body was taken to College of Medicine mortuary the same day and then to his residence Ndirande Newlines.

However, sombre faces engulfed when the chair of the funeral ceremony disclosed that Chikondi had died a week after being employed as an accountant at Calvary Family Church.

“It is so sad that his parents have lost a person, who could have been a bread winner in the family because he was only employed last week as an accountant at Cavalry Family Church,” he said.

Chikondi, who hailed from Ntcheu District was born March 17, 1983.
