Thunder strike Tigresses in Rainbow Paints League

They fought as a team to get a result from a strong and formidable side in the netball circles. Thunder Queens beat Tigresses by 43 baskets to 37 on a Saturday afternoon at the Blantyre Youth  Centre.

The defending Rainbow Paints Southern Region netball league champions appeared to be on course for another victory over Queens before  they lost plot in the last quater to lose the game. Tigresses led Thunder with 13 to 7 baskets by the end of the first quater but their lead was reduced to a single basket by the end their  second quater.

However, Tigresses extended the lead with a basket at the end of third quater but this was not enough to stop Thunder Queens to stage an incredible come back to get a result over the defending champions.

Speaking to Nyasa times after the game, Coach -player for Thunder Joana Kachilika said the result was a true reflection of the game and felt they deserved the victory.

“We deserve the victory. We encouraged each other at the end of third quater that let’s push for a comeback and punish them. And what  a game. Tiga is a strong team with quality players  but we felt a day would come when we could remind netball lovers that we are still a force in the game,”said Kachilika.

Kachilika also took time to appeal for support from well wishers to enable the team travel to Lilongwe for Presidential cup games next week.

“As it was the case last year, we are still in a tight corner . We need support. Our total budget is almost half a million kwacha and any support from individuals or companies is welcome. Out officials are fighting to source funds and with prayers, we hope to be in Lilongwe next week,” said Kachilika.

In other rainbow paints southern region netball league games, Chilomoni sisters beat Chitakale sisters by 66 to 33 baskets while Kukoma Diamonds regained their top position with a sounding victory over young professionals winning by 123 to 16 baskets. Alliance Capital on the other hand beat Chitakale sisters by 90 to 17 baskets.
