Thyolo DC Thombozi confirms his appointment as new Director of Chiefs
Thyolo District Commissioner (DC), Charles Thombozi, on Thursday surprised members of the full council when he announced his appointment as Director of Chiefs.
In his announcement, Thombozi said he had received official communication from higher authorities that he was posted to be the Director of Chiefs in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
This means that Thombozi will replace the current Director of Chiefs, Lawrence Makonokaya.
“I am officially informing this house that it has pleased President Professor Peter Mutharika to appoint me as the Director of Chiefs. The last day for me to be in the office is July 31.Therefore, this is my last meeting to be with you.I, therefore, urge you to continue working hard and support the new DC since that will help the district to achieve more in terms of development,” said Thombozi.
Thombozi, who has been posted to Thyolo three times on the same positionsaid he was glad that he started his journey as a DC in Thyolo and has finishedit in the same district.
In his remarks, Senior Chief Mphuka who represented the chiefs wished Thombozi well as he was going to assume his new role.
“It is always sad when people who you share good moments with are moved away. However, we are happy that the new role which you are about to undertake will still be in the Ministry of Local Government and that you will be our director,” said Mphuka.
Ironically, T/AMphuka asked Thombozi to consider lobbying for an increment in chief’s honoraria when he assumes the position of Director of Chiefs.
