TNM introduces Super League E-ticketing venture

In a bid to offer convenience to soccer fans and enhance revenue accountability, the long-term sponsor of the Super League TNM plc is proud to launch a ticketing option at matches using its mobile money service, Mpamba.

Makata: e-ticketing through Mpamba will ensure that benefits in advancements of mobile network and ICT services for which TNM plc is the pioneer in Malawi,

Announcing the new development, Chief Officer (Consumer Services) Daniel Makata said the move is in line with continuous improvements in the delivery of innovative, converged mobile and ICT services TNM is offering on its network platform.

“The goal to change customer and soccer fans experiences for the better and propel football development into a great future. This will support long-term financial and administrative sustainability of the Super League Clubs and overall, the game of football in Malawi, for which TNM is a historic and trusted sponsorship partner,” he said.

Makata said e-ticketing through Mpamba will ensure that benefits in advancements of mobile network and ICT services for which TNM plc is the pioneer in Malawi, extend to the game of football for which TNM is the major sponsor.

“As we grow our network services using modern and advanced technology, we are taking football and its fans along with us into the future. We’ll leave no stone unturned to ensure that we continue with our commitment to develop football in all its respects, and in turn contribute to socio-economic development of the country,” he said.

He said during the initiation phase, soccer fans who buy their tickets using Mpamba will benefit from a discount of K500 per match and that the system favours advance buying of tickets.

To buy match tickets using Mpamba, customers will be required to be registered on mobile money service by dialling *444# if they are not yet registered and follow the usual prompts. They will need to select 5 (Other payments) and enter the SULOM code 0885999555. The system will generate an SMS, which they will take to the match to redeem tickets..

“The new service eliminates the hassle and risk associated with going to the match loaded with cash, which may get lost, stolen or sometimes pose health hazards. With Mpamba, watching your favourite team at the weekend has become ever smarter,” said Makata.

He said Mpamba E-ticket will also go a long way to improve the financial soundness and accountability of administering the Super League as cases of fraud, cash pilferage and theft at the gates would be minimised since physical cash-handling will eventually go.

“The system will take away the pressure of manual cash counting and administration by SULOM, FAM, clubs and stadium authorities. Time has come to embrace new systems and say good-bye to the old ways so that we can improve the image of our football. This is a smart tackle in the game of football administration as the new service is addressing inherent concerns about transparency and accountability of gate-takings,” he said.

The Chief Consumer Services Officer said the service was used in a  trial during the recent Flames and Comoros game at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe where it passed the requisite tests and yielded positive results.

Makata said the Lilongwe derby between Silver Strikers and Nyasa Big Bullets at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe will be used to launch the e-ticketing trials. “We plan to trial the ticketing option for a selected TNM Super League games, and are confident stakeholders will support it for the good of the game, and its sustenance,” he concluded.

Commenting on the initiative, SULOM Treasurer, Tiya Somba Banda said initiative is part of the SULOM’s strategy to modernize the game of football on and off the pitch by moving with the current trends.

The advance ticketing through Mpamba, will enable clubs to easily cushion their budgets ahead of a fixture, as they might advance their share to cater for transport and accommodation etc.

Gate entry turnaround time at the stadiums will also improve as fans will not be queuing waiting for cashiers to count money and the like.
