Thyolo hospital run out of sexually transmitted infection drugs and diabetis medicine

Non governmental organisations in Thyolo are blowing a whistle to alert authorities that Thyolo District Hospital has run out of sexually transmitted infection drugs and diabetis medicine.

The NGOs, that include those involved in youth welfare and the elderly, say the situation is so dire that it risks lives of people in the district.

“People are failing to participate in development activities because of the increased numbers of those suffering from STIs and diabetis. The situation is getting out of hand,” said one of the officials.

But Mike Mlowa, a hospital official disputed this, saying there are enough drugs for patients.

“People cook up stories, this is not true,” he said.

However, 25 year old Gerald Munyapa who could not disclose the type of STI he was suffering from said he was sent to a private clinic because there was no medicine at the hospital.
