Tigresses crowned Malawi netball champions: Wins OG Issa league

Complex Tigresses players on Saturday went wild  in celebrations after they won 2013/2014 OG Issa Southern Region Netball League Champions at College of Medicine.

Despite losing their last game 24-25 baskets against Diamonds, Tigresses were crowned champions on goal aggregate having tallied on points with Diamonds.

For becoming champions, Tigresses received K350, 000 while Diamonds went home with K210, 000 for scooping the second slot.

The game was played 14 minutes at BYC before showers which made the court yard slippery forcing the game to be abandoned for further consultations.

After consultations they agreed that the game be shifted to an indoor at College of Medicine a few kilometers away where Diamonds narrowly beat Tigresses 24-25.

However, despite tallying on points Complex Tigresses were crowned champions on goal aggregate.

Tigresses  were given K350, 000 for being crowned champions while Diamonds went home with K210, 000 for scooping the second position.

Diamonds  coach Griffin Saenda said his team deserved the victory but emphasized it was painful to lose the title on goal aggregate.

“I think we played very well in all the four quarters and let me salute my players for the victory despite missing the title,” said Saenda.

Complex  Tigresses Peace Kalua hailed her charges for putting up a gallant fight and winning the title.

Kaluwa said the change of the venue from BYC to College of medicine affected the tempo of the game.

“All in all lam happy that we have managed to win the title,” she said.

During the award ceremonies, Chimwemwe Madeya of Airwing was voted the most improved shooter while the best centre went to Ulemu Kaponda.

Best defender went to Asitatu Kasawala of Aquid, as Fatsani Chituwa from Chitakale was the best player of the League.

Player of the tournament went to Salome Koloko of Airwing.
