Tigresses disqualified for featuring pregnant player: Presidential Cup
Tigresses dreams to defend the Presidential Netball Cup has been shuttered after Netball Association of Malawi ( NAM) disqualified them in the tournament for featuring a player who is pregnant on Saturday before being identified on Sunday in their semi-finals game against Blue Eagles Sisters in Lilongwe.
NAM president Rose Chinunda confirmed the news with Nyasa Times.
Chinunda said according to the rules any team is not allowed to use a player who is pregnant.
Nyasa Times understand the player is Lauren Ngwira.
“It is true that we have ousted Tigresses in the tournament for featuring a player who is pregnant. On Saturday they managed to escape the law by featuring the player but on Sunday some people tipped us that one of their players is playing despite being pregnant,” said Chinunda.
Chinunda said after some consultations they resorted in taking the player for pregnant test where she was tested positive.
Meanwhile, another MTL Queens player who was suspected to be pregnant as well was also taken to the hospital for pregnant test.
After being told that they will not be allowed to continue in the tournament, Tigresses players were involved in a scuffle with some NAM officials up to an extent of calling for the police intervention.
Efforts to seek Tigresses officials views proved futile as their phones could not be reached.
On another note, Diamond has reached in the finals after clobbering Blue Eagles Sisters 58-59 baskets in a fierce encounter.
