Tina Maunde crowned Miss Malawi Ireland

A 22-year-old management student Tina Maunde has been crowned Miss Malawi Ireland in a colourful catwalk in Dublin, Saturday evening in a joint event with singer Lucius Banda consent.

Maunde, who has previously contested in Miss Tourism Malawi, said she would use her reign to promote the image of ‘the warm heart of Africa’ and seek  support in charitable activities.

Betina  Khozi was crowned first princess while Nsidwa Kambawuwa was second princess. Denise Anthony scooped the Miss Personality title.

“I am thrilled,” Maunde told Nyasa Times when she was crowned beauty queen.

The beauty was the pick of the judges from the eight finalists through categories of introduction, creative, traditional wear, evening wear, the popural swim wear and a question and answer segment.

Maunde dazzled in a traditional wear and she paraded like a village woman in Malawi fetching for timber wood and also wooed the crowds inher swim wear.

“I’m humbled, proud and thankful. All the girls were beautiful, am glad that am crowned the queen,” said Maunde.

She promised to endeavour to attract tourism and foreign investment in Malawi by portraying a positive image of Malawi.

Indeed, German consultants for government and international affairs, Tabias Hanchenberg and Daniel Dank who came to watch said it was “beautiful event”.

The two who are supporting development projects in Malawi said the models should be able to portray a good image of Malawi, saying as “friends of Malawi” they would  help in enhancing talent and development projects.

The event was spiced with music performance by Malawi’s music icon Lucius Banda who set Clarion Hotel in the Ireland’s capital on fire.

Despite not being accompanied by his dancing troupe, Lucius Banda was accompanied on stage dancing decently with one of the beauty contestant Prema Tewesa. And other patrons, like lively Kumvana Mphepho stormed to display her chanting antics.
