TNM brand and communication manager Limbani Nsapato said the donation was a continuation of TNM’s quest to increase access to information communication technology education (ICT) in schools.

He said the delivery of the computers underscored the company’s commitment towards improving education through exposure to information technology.

Said Nsapato: “Just as many community schools in Malawi, Yamba CDSS lacked ICT equipment to support the delivery of fully-fledged ICT education. This donation will equip students with the necessary technological knowledge to support their education and skills development.”

Speaking when he received the donation, head teacher of Yamba CDSS, Mavuto Munyenyembe, thanked TNM for the donation, saying the computers would help the students familiarize themselves with ICT before going to colleges where most of the learning has now gone digital.

“We are grateful to TNM for the donation, and I am optimistic that the computers will improve the school’s academic performance as students will now be able to utilize internet services for their education.

“This was not possible in the past,” said Munyenyembe.

Chitipa district education manager Votie Mboweni has advised teachers at the school to guide students to avoid  abuse of the facilities.

He said: “We know that there are so many harmful sites like those containing pornography which is ruining many school-going youths. I don’t want to see that happen here.

“I am confident that with these computers, we will also increase the pass rate as teachers will enhance their content because the Internet provides them with a chance to do more research.”

This is TNM’s third donation under the initiative. First to benefit was Januwale CDSS in Thyolo followed by Chayamba CDSS in Kasungu. There is one more school left.
