TNM donates K8m medical equipment to Ntchisi hospital maternity wing

In its continued efforts towards assisting government in the delivery of quality health services, premier mobile service provider TNM has donated medical equipment worth K8 million to Ntchisi district hospital.

The equipment has been purchased with proceeds from TNM’s mobile money service, Mpamba Trust Fund.

Speaking during the hand over ceremony, TNM Mpamba Trust Fund Board Chairman Jabbar Alide said the donation demonstrates company’s commitment in reaching out to the needs of many Malawians.

“We at TNM Mpamba have a duty to save the lives of the people of Ntchisi. Overall, we expect our intervention to help in reduction of maternal and neonatal deaths in the district,” said Alide.

Alide also said the health sector especially on maternal health is one of the key focus areas for TNM’s Social Responsibility Policy which among otherkey areas includes support of vulnerable groups, response to Disasters and Emergencies and education.

He reaffirmed TNM’s commitment in assisting government in the provision of quality health services in the country especially in rural areas.

“We feel obliged to play our part in assisting government meet some of the social needs such as health. The company is much aware of the numerous challenges that the health sectors faces which require a joint effort both from government and private sector,” he noted.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the hosipital, Ntchisi District Hospital nursing officer Bertha Migodi commended TNM for coming to their rescue with such greatly needed equipment.

“The Resuscitaire that you have just seen in the maternity ward stopped operating a year ago and we tried all means to maintain it but failed and to have a new one today as the management we are grateful,” said Migodi.

Migodi said they requested several organizations including corporate entities for assistance, but only TNM  responded positively.

” We knocked at the doors of different organizations but only TNM has demonstrated that they are really with us and they will always be with us in times of need and this donation will really go a long way in serving large population and reduce neonatal death in the district and the surrounding areas” she said .

Ntchisi District Hospital serves a population of over 270,000 people with a maternity wing delivering an average of 250 babies every month.

The donated equipment comprises Resuscitaire, Oxygen concentrators, delivery beds & Mattresses and Electric Suction machines.

Other institutions that have benefited from the Mpamba Trust Fund include the Majete Health Centre in Chikwawa, Kamuzu Central Hospital High Dependency unit.
