TNM impressed with Cape Maclear Triathlon

The sponsors of first ever Cape Maclear Triathlon, TNM says it is very impressed with the organisation of the event which took place in the lake district of Mangochi from 18 to 20 September.

Malawi’s premier mobile service provider, TNM provided K8 million for the event which attracted over 200 athletes.

TNM’s PR and Sponsorship Manager Limbani Nsapato described the event as a success.

“TNM is impressed with   the turn out, the organisation and the competition demonstrated during the event and as sponsors we are proud to be partner Mizu Foundation for the breath-taking Lake Malawi event,” said Nsapato.

“It is exciting to note that in future Mizu Foundation wants to grow Triathlon to another level that will attract international athletes. This will help sell Malawi’s tourism to the outside world,” he said.

Jam Kaunda of Mizu Foundation who was coordinating the event said the foundation was was overwhelmed with the response that the event received.

“We  are very happy  with the response  that we got , it well-received event, one that has never happened before on the shores of Lake Malawi – Let alone in Cape Maclear,” said Kaunda.

Kaunda hailed TNM for the support which has enables the foundation to hold thE event.

“Mizu Foundation would like to thank TNM for the Support we have gotten for sponsoring this event, and we hope to continue this relationship into the future, as we aim to raise even more awareness for more amazing Charitable Organisation that we want to support through Sport – including Mizu Foundation, which aims to empower the Youth through Education and Entrepreneurship,” Kaunda said.

Over 200 athletes began their day with a 10 –Kilometre run on Saturday , then they headed out on a two –kilometre swim which followed by a 20-kilometre bike ride.

In individual triathlon, Edward Archibard came first while Lee Standed was his runner –up. Kayal Africa, Funky Team and Billy’s Clinic emerged the winners in team’s category in position one, two and three respectively.

The winners received prizes ranging from trophies, cash and mobile phones from TNM.

Proceeds from the event will go towards a number of charitable causes.

Top DJ’s including Drew, Cool,Red Eye Dread, and four Acoustic Musicians George Kalukusha, Dan Kalima, Adrian Kwlepeta  rock Artist Zwangi Wangie Pangie spiced the event.
