TNM maintains Malawi marketing awards momentum

Malawi Stock Exchange-listed integrated mobile telecommunications operator, TNM Plc scooped three Loeries at the 2019 Marketing Excellence Awards by Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Malawi group, maintaining a winning momentum in each year of the awards since 2012.

The three awards are Commercial of Year (Outdoor Advertising), Commercial of Year (Radio Advertising) and Brand Malawi Initiative of Year for TNM’s sponsorship of the Lake Malawi Calendar Project in partnership with Kumbali Lodge.

The Commercial of Year (Radio Advertising) accolade recognized the unique creativity in the radio advert ‘*100#’, which is a TNM self-help platform while the Outdoor Advertising medal is in recognition of the teleco’s outstanding brand visibility out of home across the country.

The third award, Brand Malawi Initiative of Year, follows the impact of the TNM-sponsored Lake Malawi Calendar Project in promoting Malawi as tourism destination of choice. The project undertaken in partnership with Kumbali Lodge, was a 52-day exploration of undiscovered sites around Lake Malawi‘s biodiversity, ecotourism, and cultures.

It culminated into production of a television documentary and other information about the lake and its people broadcast across various platforms.

The awards sees TNM maintain a winning record in each of the seven years since the CIM introduced the Excellence awards. It dominated the 2018 season, with its Marketing head Sobhuza Ngwenya scooping the Marketer of Year accolade and their official advertising partner FD Communications winning Advertising Agency award, their third consecutive.

Head of Brand Communications Sobhuza Ngwenya said marcoms are the telco’s heart-beat and help provide interpretation of the various technological aspects of telecommunications technology and services.

“The marketing function is an important aspect of this business as it keeps our customers (voice, mobile internet, mobile money and enterprise services) well informed and educated at all times,” he said.

Ngwenya said TNM Plc is propelled by engineering and telecoms technology, and the job of its marketers is to provide meaning behind these tools.

“As brand communications division, we break technology into edible pieces for the consumer through the deployment of various forms of marketing communications, and across multiple platforms. We are therefore humbled to notice that our work has consistently earned the recognition of judges over the years of the CIM Marketing Excellence Awards,” he said.

Ngwenya said the awards will continue to inspire the Brand & Communications team to work hard towards exceeding set standards.

In 2018, TNM Plc dominated the excellence Awards by producing Marketer of Year in Sobhuza Ngwenya, and contributing to Advertising Agency of Year award won by FD Communications Ltd in their third consecutive year.
