TNM to unveil new Malawi Super League trophy: Lucius Banda gig at Bullets, Mafco re-launch match

Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM), sponsors of the K90 million Super League, has said all is set to the launch of the second round of the 2015 edition of the national top flag league in Nkhotakota.

The sponsors, who are also the country’s premier mobile service provider, will also unveil the new trophy for the tournament.

TNM Chief Commercial Officer Dan Makata said they were happy that the first round went on very well and saw improvement in standards of the game.

He further said the theme for this years tournament focuses on the player, who is the “main entertainer of the game but welfare is oftentimes compromised”.

“After successful completion of the first round, we shall be celebrating the game of football with the fans in Nkhotakota and surrounding areas as the second round of the league rolls into life. As sponsors,

“It is our hope that as we draw closer identifying the champion, the level of competition shall get higher and the games will become even more exciting,” said Makata

He therefore urged all stakeholders including football fans to avoid any act violence that would put game of football in disrepute.

“Though there has been a drop in incidences of hooliganism but still more we experienced some unfortunate incidents leading to the eventual death of an innocent soul in the first round. We expect teams and their fans to be disciplined so that we can completely eradicate hooliganism from football,” he said.

TNM Chief Commercial Officer said the re-launch theme still focuses on the uplifting competitiveness of the game and the welfare of the players.

“We shall re-launch under the theme; Our Players, Our Heroes, Our Pride. This is meant to build the spirit of motivating the player who is the hero of our beautiful game In line with this theme, the player is the main reason why TNM decided to increase the sponsorship value from K65 million to K90 million. You will note that team and individual awards have increased significantly,” he said.

Live performances by Sir Lucius Banda and Zembani Banda and martial arts displays, among others, will spice up the re-launch match involving host Mafco and league leaders Bullets FC.

“We have lined up a number of activities to spice the launch, there will be music performances parade and acrobatics by Malawi Army among others before the match between the giants of Malawi football, Big Bullets FC and Mafco FC this will accord fans the chance to interact with the sponsor and the players,” said Makata.

Bullets tops the log table with 32 points from 14 games, followed by Azam Tigers and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers with 26 points apiece..
