TNM tunes up Mafco vibration band with musical equipment
Malawi’s premier mobile phone company, TNM has today donated musical equipment to Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) Vibration Band worth K1.7 million kwacha, following a request the band made to the pioneer mobile telecommunication company.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the college, Managing Executive for Regional Operation, Phyllis Manguluti, said the donation was in recognition of the noble role played by the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) in ensuring a peaceful Malawi and in the line with her company’s policy of promoting arts, culture and music in Malawi.
“As a truly Malawian company, we have an obligation to promote arts and culture in the country. Not only does the vibration band entertain people but also promotes our culture as such we felt we had an obligation to come in and assist,” said Manguluti.
Manguluti said TNM appreciates the critical role music play in the military set-up since time immemorial with so many stories told of how spirits have been lifted when the going gets tough in the battlefield.
She said TNM realises that music forms the core of culture and that every country is known by its culture. She said a country without culture is like a tree without roots.
“Culture is a recipe for socio-economic development of any country. And there can never be a culture without music. The music that Vibration Band plays enriches the culture that makes us as Malawians. TNM being a truly Malawian company holds our arts and culture supreme, hence this donation,” she said.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the band, MAFCO commandant AlickMhone thanked TNM for the donation describing it as timely.
MAFCO’s Vibration Band is a well known band in Malawi which plays during regimental functions and other state functions in addition to entertaining people with Christmas carols
