Transformation Alliance persuading youth to be active participants in politics

Vocal political pressure group Transformation Alliance (T.A) has launched a nationwide tour with a a specific message targetting the youths of Malawi who shares the large population in the country.

Kunkuyu: TA leader

During the tour, the group which is led by former Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu intends to encourage the youths of Malawi to develop leadership skills and take an active role in the political affairs of the country if the Malawi nation is to  transform for the better.

Addressing a youthful gathering at Mdeka Admarc ground in the area of Traditional Authority Chigaru in Blantyre where Transformation Alliance organised a football bonanza to interact with the youth in the area, Kunkuyu said he is happy that the youth are responding well to the winds of change that are blowing globally by realising their potential and re aligning themselves politically.

He therefore encouraged the youth to develop political ‘eyes’ and detect lies, mere political statements and promises aimed at soliciting their votes when elections are approaching.

“It is a known fact now that people will flock to you the youth of this country to get your votes in the forthcoming elections but I am here to urge you to be watchful and have the ability to stick to what we believe gives us hope for a better Malawi. What we want are leaders and unfortunately, we have had a deficiency of leaders in this country,” said Kunkuyu

He added that: “While others are focusing on the next election, let us focus on the future, the future of this country, our future and the future of our children”.

Kunkuyu,  howeve, advised the youth to be respectful to their leaders including the President, Members of Parliament and Ward Councillors.

But he strongly advised the youths and the rest of Malawians ‘never to be fearful’ to their leaders.

“While I urge you to do away with the spirit of fear, I advise  you to respect your leaders, your parliamenterian in this area as well as your Councillor. Fear God alone and not man, no matter how intimidating the atmosphere might be,” said Kunkuyu.

Speaking at the event, Traditional Authority Chigaru hailed TA for the initiative saying many young people are engaging in promiscuous behaviours because they lack mentorship and support.

He also took time to thank members of his community for responding well to the call emphasising it wasn’t a political campaign gathering but an empowerment gathering worth attending.

Before the event Kunkuyu who is also Session Clerk for Manase CCAP joined the Christians of Chikhwembere CCAP where he led the service of worship and preached on a theme “removing reproach by living in the word of God”.

Now u are talking. I have always said Africa/Malawi especially need youths to engage in democratic politics rather than be warriors of old politicians. Malawi development is in the future of youths not old politicians. There is tendence of fear for youths to be active in politics because they are threatens and after Chasowa no youth dare to say anything. Support each other dont let one person be in front alone together u can active your goes. Time for young African Boys and women take over.
