Tutz: Malawi music rising star

For most people when it comes to recognizing some of the best up-and-coming female vocalists in the urban music industry in Malawi, the name Tutz is of no surprise.

Born Chifundo Bandawe in a family of three, a student pursuing a Business Communication degree at the Polytechnic of Malawi, Tutz is on her way to excellence.

“I started singing at 6 back in primary and it was my teacher who guided me through”, disclosed Tutz. “I recorded my solo track in 2012 titled Lost In Your Love then I Don’t Care in 2013”.

By then, the female wonder voice had already been featured by some well known artists like Revolver and Judagaga.

In an interview with Nyasa Showbiz, Tutz attributed her family as the drive to her progression in her music career. “They usually asked me to sing for them and it got me hooked a lot.”

“In addition, I grew up listening to the likes of Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston and Tina Turner and these artists have had a big influence on what I sing about.”

Tutz has recently been featured on some of the new hits like Excess’ Kumalayina and Lilongwe based hip-hop artist Dee Oh Dub’s Ambition.

She disclosed that she would soon be going into the studio to record her new hip-hop track that might feature Trap Squad’s Judagaga, with Excess on the beat.

Her plans are to release an album, though she said it may not happen now. “I can’t tell when but plans are there.”
