Two Chanco students convicted for fighting over a girl

Zomba Senior Magistrate Court has convicted and  fined K135, 000 two Chancellor College of the University of Malawi students for unlawful wounding, malicious damage and theft in an incident where they beat a man over a girl.

Senior Magistrate Jean Kaira fined the two third year student Thokozani Meke 26 years old and Wilfred Mwambira, 24 first year student for beating Aven Mussa who is alleged to be dating Meke’s girlfriend.

Meke hails from Lingaka Village T/A Kachere in Dedza, and Mwambira comes from Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector, Dovice Makawa told the court during hearing that the two committed the offence on the night of June 6th at Chikanda Township in the district.

Makawa said Meke and Mwambira stormed Mussa’s house on the said night and assaulted him on the head with a wood, destroyed his property amounting to K50, 000 and went away with K25, 000 cash.

Mussa is said to have been heavily wounded heavily and had lost his memory.

Senior Magistrate Jean Kaira found the two guilty and convicted them on three counts of unlawful wounding, malicious damage and theft contrarily to Sections 241, 344 and 278 of the Penal Code.
