Two Malawians held for shooting Zambian

Two Malawians have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a Zambian national, Miderick Simasiku Ling’umbwa and later stole his motor vehicle in Lundazi district, Zambia , Police have said.

Police said the two are; Chancy Mtambalika,36, of Mtambalika Moyo village T/A M’mbelwa D. Mzimba and Thomas Makina,35, of Semani village T/A Chikowi D. Zomba.

According to Police on December 18, this year, the two suspects went to Lundazi where they a spent a night and the following day, they had to hire a taxi from Lundazi-Zambia to Malawi.

On the way one Mtambalika produced a pistol and shot the driver twice and died on the spot but fortunately the river’s friend escaped unhurt despite of shots being fired from behind.

Later, the two went away with motor vehicle, a Toyata Corolla up to Mzimba where they hid it at Kanjinga Guest house.

The escaped person narrated the incident to Lundazi police and later the matter was reported at Mzimba police.

First suspect was arrested on December 19, this year while the second suspect was arrested the following day.

The motor vehicle was recovered at the Guest house and Police recovered the pistol with seven rounds of live ammunitions from the house of the first suspect, which might have been used in the shooting, police said.

Meanwhile, the two suspects have been handed over to Zambia where they be prosecuted according to Zambia laws since they committed the offence in Zambia.
