Ulendo extends to Blantyre route

Ulendo Airlink Chief Executive Officer, Rob McConaghy, says the addition of Blantyre to Ulendo’s domestic network was designed to offer comprehensive air services to all key destinations in the country.

“Subsequent to the successful launch of our Mzuzu and Likoma Island services, we have responded to requests from our customers to offer onward connections to Blantyre. Our new schedules are designed to complement existing air services on this important route and offer passengers more flexibility and additional capacity between Malawi’s largest hubs,” he said.

“Our focus has always been to address the evolving travel needs in Malawi and we believe that the inclusion of Blantyre to our schedule will make a significant contribution towards this end,” stated McConaghy.

He continued: “Future scheduled services include 4 flights per week from Lilongwe to the Southern Lakeshore and Liwonde National Park which will launch in April 2020 after the coming rainy season.”

The new Blantyre route will be serviced by the same W4 15-seater Dornier 228 which currently caters for the Lilongwe-Mzuzu-Likoma Island route and travelers will enjoy seamless connections to Mzuzu and Likoma Island as well as offering excellent connections for Blantyre customers to international airline services to and from Lilongwe.

Initially, the Lilongwe-Blantyre route will operate 14 return frequencies per week, with early morning flights every Monday to Friday, Mid-morning flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, lunch hour schedules on Tuesdays and Thursdays and evening flights on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

The schedules will be adjusted slightly on completion of the runway reconstruction at Chileka Airport to facilitate later flights on weekdays.

Reservations and ticketing are available for sale worldwide through travel agents with access to IATA’s BSP ticketing services and will be sold under the W4 IATA airline designator code with ticketing services provided by Hahn Air.

In addition to online reservations options available through  “http://www.flyulendo.com, local sales channels include Travel Agents, Tour Operators and Ulendo Airlink airport offices, Lilongwe Head office in Area 10 or Country Tours  & Travel who act as General Sales Agents for Ulendo Airlink in Mzuzu.

For Malawi Citizens, who hold a National ID Card, Blantyre fares are starting from as low as K55, 000 (one-way) including taxes with discounted fares available for passengers under 16 years of age travelling with an adult.

Ulendo Airlink is a subsidiary of Ulendo Malawi Group, a tour operator and travel service provider which started operating in 1998 primarily as an inbound tour operator.

Having attained its Air Operators Certificate in 2016, Ulendo Malawi Group is the second operator in the country, after Malawi Airlines, which is certified to operate schedule passenger flight services in the country.

The experience I had with this Ulendo mmmmm very bad, they kept cancelling their flight as if its a mini bus from Townhall to Likuni kuti ikuwopa a Traffic Police. Plus they are very expensive they are so good to push foreigner customers away, they charge more if you are using a passport from another countries, no wonder they do not have many customers. I like using Air malawi fair prices

Quotations for 1 return ticket Blantyre-Lilongwe: bookings were made on the airlines websites.
Rates are on same day of travel.
1. Ulendo USD 275 .2 Malawian Airlines 98.40
Why should a person willing to visit Malawi, having bought a very expensive ticket from Europe/
America/Asia plus USD 75 for a Entry Visa, should be penalised paying more for a ticket with
Ulendo? Your article states that Malawians are eligible for cheaper fares.
USD 275 elsewhere equals New York-Miami or London Rome for 2 passengers

Minimum of K55000 is too expensive for Malawians. As little as R850, you can catch a local flight between Cape Town and Johannesburg which is 2000 kilometres apart. I once paid R900 for a British Airways flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Sad development for Malawi.
