University of Malawi lecturer says Nankhumwa has winning formula for DPP
A University of Malawi media studies lecturer has tipped the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to pick its vice president (South) Kodwani Nankhumwa as heir to the party top leadership, saying he has many undiluted political attributes to move the DPP forward.

Focus Maganga says in his published article that Nankhumwa – Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development – is best placed to take over from President Peter Mutharika when he retires as party president in 2023.
“Simply put, DPP will need the man, Kondwani Nankhumwa, to take over from where President Mutharika will leave it. He is best placed. Blue without doubt, strong campaigner and liked by both DPP and non DPP members. He currently holds the party’s strongest base,” says Maganga.
Nankhumwa faces State vice-president Everton Chimulirenji in the battle for the top most job in the DPP.
Maganga says Nankhumwa should be fully exposed to government business, and assigned to different ministries.
He says both Mutharika and Chimulirenji should prepare Nankhumwa for the highest office, so that he won’t have to experiment crucial ideas in his life beyond 2024.
“Making this straightforward can help to unify the party and ease unnecessary political ambitions—as both the President and vice president concentrate on building their legacy,” Maganga says.
Nankhumwa is currently the powerful party vice president for the south as well as Leader of government business in parliament.
He is also member of parliament for Mulanje central constituency.
Local government minister Ben Phiri is also eying the presidency and wants to pair with former Justice minister Samuel Tembunu .
Ministers Bright Msaka and Joseph Mwanamvekha are also campaigning silently for the same high-stakes position.
In presidential elections results being challenged in court, Mutharika, won the r ace in the May 21 2019 Tripartite Elections with 1 940 709 votes or 38.57 percent.
In 2014, Mutharika, with Saulos Chilima as his running mate, triumphed with 1 904 399 votes, representing 36.4 percent of the votes cast against Chakwera’s 1 455 880 or 27.8 percent. Then incumbent president Joyce Banda, who had ascended to the presidency in line with constitutional order after the death of Bingu wa Mutharika in 2012, finished third with 1 056 236 votes or 20.2 percent of the vote while Atupele Muluzi finished fourth with 717 224 votes or 13.7 percent.

Stupid University lecturer, which country is he talking about?
Does University of Malawi have such dull lecturers? Is he from Poly?
Just as in football Nankhumwa is valuable as a defender or midfielder, not a striker. As for Chimulirenji, he is just a plant for some powerful Mafia; definitely not material for President, far from it.
………………………….LIER………………………………..
Mpakana president B Phiri ayi paja amati never say never
Has Malawi lost wise and progressive people to think of Nankhumwa becoming president? What corridors of education has Nankhumwa stepped on?
To be honest, Nankhumwa can be pampered by some of his fellow Lomwes but he doesn’t have the personality, the mind, and desired qualifications to propel Malawi to greater heights – some sections of people even once said that Nankhumwa has been using another person’s school certificate in order to advance his political ambitions. Nankhumwa is like a football player who is just good at club football but not suitable material for national team duty.
There is too much mediocrity in the southern part of Malawi and there is a tendency for people to worship politicians who are corrupt but don’t have what it takes to contribute to Malawi’s progress. Nankhumwa should just enjoy DPP’s localized and tribal politics but the rest of Malawi can not be under such an uneducated buffoon with a pot belly from stolen taxes.
Where we have reached now is a point of no return to tribal politics, mediocre leadership, and worshipping of politicians. DPP is full of people who attain colorful degrees without class-work with an intention to hoodwink the electorate. Malawi needs leaders who can lead in invention and not in getting rich overnight . We need progressive minds that start companies that make engines for automobiles, that make tyres, smartphones, televisions, and the list goes on. Do we have any such vision in the likes of Nankhumwa or Ben Phiri who lie about universities attended or degrees achieved? Let’s not make our country too cheap to ruled by such conmen.
KHOKHO, amwene mwalankhula. you must be among the highly minded people of my like. Stay blessed
Nankhumwa for DPP, Chilima for Malawi. Let the game begin
Media lecturer? What did he specialise on to competently comment on DPP succession issues? He is an example of stupid lecturer who can do and say anything in exchange of money.
What type of academic is this? How much got he paid for such a nonsense? This why you kept him anonymous Mr Owen Khamula!
Did you investigate into his track records as a minister and the sudden wealth he has amassed in his young career?
Unfortunately talking alone makes out of a criminal not automatic a good leader!
MARK and NAMATETULE
You’ve made my day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hahahaha 💃💃💃
Especially Mark , you’re very very right and correct
All ur comments saluted and respected
Ulemu wanu guys
Just cementing what we already know: that DPP leadership is exclessive for the Lhomwes! What a biased and tribalistic article! Malawi has been ruled by the Muthalikas for almost 15 years together and adding another 5 or 10 by another Lhomwe will surely be good only for the Mulhako but not all Malawians! Thats why Chimulirenji is the way to go…a breath of fresh air and a non Lhomwe! Remember Malawi belongs to all tribes and no tribe should have monopoloy over leadership positions! Otherwise we may be heading towards trouble if peopke feel one tribe is monopolising the Presidency and power!
You have personal hatred for Mutharikas. Authorities are appointed by God.
Which god appointed an albino killer, a thief, a tribalist incompetent president. Baba fear GOD ooo. God’s will is sacred don’t mock it by attributing Peter presidency to it. Peter is symbol of Malawi’s denial of God. Aaron’s golden God in the absence of Moses.
Who is this lecturer? No name? How do readers believe the story? Refrain from publishing such stories. They lack credibility!
Musatinyase a DPP, you will never rule Malawi again after rerun. Nankhumwa is the biggest thug in DPP sponsoring all the big Cadets, killers and bouncers like Bangwe 1, Ntopwa 1 etc etc. You think we don’t know.
Nanunso re-run yake iti? You think even if there is a re-run these thugs in UTM and MCP who have been causing misery to Malawians will win? Nyala ndi iyi nyau zija zayamba kulira nayo. Where are these thugs? Why can’t UTM, HRDC and MCP mobilise resources to hepl nyau zikutivititsa ndi kutipempha chakudya kunozi? You mean they are only good at soliciting money from the colonialists to champion demos whose motive is only to promote homosexuality?
Can all of us just pipe down and wait for the outcome of the elections court case….my view is that if the outcome is a nullification of the results then mark my words, that will be the of DPP let alone Nankhumwa’s eligibility to be the next DPP president….
A PROPER NATION CANT IMAGINE HAVING CHIMULIRENJI FOR A PRESIDENT.
DPP yaaaah you’re right but not as President of Malawi
If it is true that the so called media lecturer at this university had this to say then I don’t think students from his class benefit from him. Actually he is the dullest media lecturer l have ever seen
And why are you choosing for DPP. Who gave you that mandate to select presidential candidates for DPP?
How much has Nankhumwa given you to write this bullshit?
UKU NKUNENE KWA TCHUTCHUTCHU. DPP can choose to ignore Nankhumwa at their own peril. Hon. Nankhumwa is man of the moment. He is a unifying factor in and outside DPP.
Shame on the paid up lecturer who originates from Mulanje Central but pretends to be giving us an expert opinion
very strong observation sir. Hon Kondwani Nankhumwa is answer to DPP when APM retires. Pliz
Kkkkkkkk You have got a right to express your opinion Mr. Maganga. Unfortunately the real political world is more intricated than your haluscinations !
unfortunately time is up for dpp
