US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrives in Malawi on Sunday

United States Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton will arrive in the country on Sunday 5th August.

Clinton is visiting Malawi as part of her African tour that started in Senegal on Tuesday and will also take her to Uganda, Kenya and South Africa where she is expected to visit the home village of Nelson Mandela.

According to a statement  released by Malawi Governement, while in the country, Clinton will hold bilateral talks with President Joyce Banda.

The US Secretary is apart from having meetings with the President also visit two developmental projects that benefit from American aid agencies.

Momentous

Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ephraim Mganda Chiume has described Clinton’s visit as momentous, reflecting the long standing and cordial relations between Malawi and the United States of America.

“The visit cements the cordial relationship that exists between Malawi and the United States of America …,,” said Chiume.

The Minister added, “This visit takes our bilateral cooperation to a new height. I am very confident that this new level of cooperation will translate into more and new American support in various sectors to consolidate Malawi’s economic and social development.”

Minister of Information, Kunkuyu said the visit was a full endorsement of the democratic and economic path taken by the Government of the Republic of Malawi.

“We have taken bold and courageous steps to restore the economy and our democratic values. We are happy that development partners such as the United States of America are ready to walk with us on the path to national growth and restoration,” Kunkuyu said.

Hilary Clinton becomes the first top senior diplomat in the Obama Administration to visit Malawi. Among other countries Clinton will visit includes, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa.

In South Africa, the US secretary of state is expected to visit the home village of Nelson Mandela.
