US trip opens new doors for Malawi’s Nzika Wear
New opportunities have arisen for Malawi’s clothing line, Nzika Wear, following their trip to the United Sates of America.
Nzika Wear and another Malawian designer Lilly Alfonso were in the U.S. where they showcased their designs during the 6th July Malawi golden jubilee in Washington DC, where local musicians Lawi and Maskal also performed.
In an interview, Nzika Wear proprietor and designer, Mwai Namaona, said the trip was a great success as they had an opportunity to interact with fellow Malawians based in the USA and so many people from Africa and around the world.
“We have been invited back in August for the Southern Africa Fashion Show,” disclosed Namaona who will be returning to the U.S. next month.
“We have had some good deals whose negotiations are promising. Once everything is set we are seeing Nzika turning into one of Africa’s top brands,” he said.
Namaona further said their U.S. tour helped them get to understand how the market there is in terms of standards and demand.
“It was interesting to hear from the patrons that the collection was up to standard. We were encouraged to keep up the good work. It was not only Nzika Wear who shined. Lilly Alfonso also showcased a good collection,” said the fashion designer.
He added: “We as Nzika will try our best to keep Malawi proud both within and outside our country. This event was the best platform for showcasing Malawi’s rich cultural heritage.”
