Wanderers launch ‘Noma Yathu’ SMS: K200 million targeted

Telecom Networks Malawi (TNM) senior business development officer Abraham Zulu has stressed that as the sponsors of top League in the country they will always support teams initiatives that aim at generating resources for smooth operations of the respective clubs.

Zulu said this on Saturday during Mighty Wanderers FC sms promotion campaign launch at Kamuzu Stadium.

“Today we are here being part of the Nomads drive through the sms promotion. We are also working with Big Bullets in the dealership initiatives where they sell TNM products and raise money for their team,” said Zulu.

Zulu said, as TNM they want to make teams to be self sustainable.

Wanderers General Secretary Mike Butao disclosed that the club had invested K10 million to run the competition on TNM mobile phone providers—sponsors of Malawi’s flagship league.

“We urge our fans to be sending SMS to Noma 1010 to TNM where they will be asked some questions and if they give correct answers they will be winning prizes ranging from Vanette minibus as a grand prize.

“Other prizes include fridges, cookers, plasma TV screen, branded golf and T-shirts, cartons of Kukoma cooking oil, among other interesting prizes during the monthly draws,” said Butao.

According to Butao, the initiative is aimed at raising K200 million by February next year, would be enough to run the club for three years.

Mighty Wanderers have been struggling after losing their long time sponsorship from MTL.
Carlsberg Malawi offered a short-term two- year sponsorship to Wanderers alongside their
rivals Bullets worth K15 million each year.

But the country’s brewery giant withdrew on controversial grounds in the wake of acts of
violence to opt for national cup sponsorship.
