Wanderers to launch ‘Noma Yathu’ SMS promotion

Mighty Wanderers are set to launch the long awaited SMS Promotion Campaign on Saturday during a game against their bitter rivals Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

The launch of the promotion has forced the initial arrangement to have the explosive match played in Lilongwe back to Blantyre, the home base of both teams.

Wanderers General Secretary Mike Butao disclosed that the club had invested K10 million to run the competition on TNM mobile phone providers—sponsors of Malawi’s flagship league.

Butao said the promotion was one of the team’s efforts to raise money for the team.

He said the promotion was not in any way a competition to the Sapota Mapeto SMS promotion run by TNM for all the 15-teams of the league.

“We are also involved in the Sapota Mapeto promotion being run by the league’s sponsor, TNM but at the same time we will be running our promotion simultaneously to complement our earnings from the Sapota Mapeto,” Butao said.

He said the promotion was also different from TNMs because they have set aside a wide range of prizes which he did not disclose.

“We are launching the promotion jointly with TNM dealership initiative whereby we will be selling their products such as smart cards in return for a commission,” he said.

Wanderers Executive Committee chairperson George Chamangwana announced that the club would rollout an SMS Campaign after winning elections held early this year in which a minibus and three plasma tv sets were billed to be given out to lucky winners.

Mighty Wanderers have been struggling after losing their long time sponsorship from MTL Wanderers.

Carlsberg Malawi offered a short-term two-year sponsorship to Wanderers alongside their rivals Bullets worth K15 million each year.

But the country’s brewery giant withdrew on controversial grounds in the wake of acts of violence to opt for national cup.
