‘Welcome show’ for Malawi Queens at Mibawa on Saturday
The Mibawa Arts Café is putting up a show for this Saturday night to celebrate the performance of the Malawi Queens at the recent Netball World Cup in Australia.
Though they finished sixth at the Sydney netball tournament, the Queens were splendid and were rated the most exciting team to watch, with star shooter Mwawi Kumwenda crowned player of the tournament.
“All proceeds will go to the team,” he disclosed.
The event has been dubbed “Malawi Queens .”
Welcome Back Show” and will feature music performances by Piksy, Blakjak and Trumel, with FM 101’s DJ Bobby Jeff on the ones and twos.
Malawi Queens arrived to a heroines welcome in Lilongwe on Tuesday where they were met by the country’s First Lady, Gertrude Mutharika; Minister of Youth & Sports, Grace Chiumia; sponsors Airtel Malawi officials and netball fans.
A group of fans also donated a cheque worth K2.7 million to the team. The money was raised through pledges made via Facebook and WhatsApp.
While indicating he couldn’t say how much they anticipate raising, Munthali said: “We hope to raise a lot because people are not just restricted to the entrance fee; we will have a special box for donations”.
The show is pegged at K1,500 for men and K1,000 women. It is slated to start at 8pm.
Well done girs for your outstanding performance, you’ve made us proud. Keep up good work.
