Public Relations Officer for WeCare, Paul Thaulo, said the organization has been sending needy primary school pupils to better schools since its commencement about three years ago.

“We have been working with the community at Kauma Township in Lilongwe where we identified needy kids.

“Thereafter, we collaborated with Adziwa Christian P.V.T Schools to provide quality education to the kids, which is in line with Sustainable Development Goal number 4,” said Thaulo.

He said the research his organisation conducted in consultation with Lilongwe West Education Division Offices showed that several students selected to various secondary schools failed to report or dropped out because of lack of tuition Fees, hence the motivation for the campaign.

“The Campaign is targeting 20 students with the help of the Lilongwe Education Division Office. After calculating the tuition for each student from Form 1 to Form 4, the total amount needed for this campaign is K20.8 million,” he said.

According to Thaulo, WeCare organisation has lined up several fundraising activities, including a possible football match between the big teams in Malawi and a dinner dance at sunbird Capital Hotel.

He also said his organisation recently participated in ‘Tipeze Market’ where they sold food and WeCare brand merchandised products.

“The Mentorship and School Support project to which this campaign belongs is an ongoing and key project in our organization. We believe that with support, we will sustain this initiative to reach all corners of our country and send back to school as many students as we can,” said Thaulo.

WeCare was established in November, 2014 by youths working in different sectors such as banking, media, logistics, business and others studying in various universities.

The organisation is currently implementing several projects in adolescent empowerment and support, HIV as well as mentorship and School Support Program.
