Zahara arrives Friday for Malawi Joy of Jazz concert

South African songstress Zahara will arrive in the country on Friday for her performance at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Concert in the capital Lilongwe.

Performing for the first time in Malawi, the ‘Loliwe’ star, born Bulelwa Mkutukana, is scheduled to perform at the newly opened Presidential Hotel on Saturday night, September 22.

The 24-year-old, who has taken the southern African continent by storm with her Afro-Soul music, will perform alongside Malawi’s own jazz legend Wambali Mkandawire to celebrate the bank’s 42-years of operation in Malawi.

Zahara: To perform in Malawi

Standard Bank head of marketing in the country, Linda Kachingwe-Sisya, confirmed the singer, who is also a very talented guitarist will land in Lilongwe on Friday alongside her 10-member band.

She further said that preparations for the show, which promises to be a great experience to Malawians, are going great and tickets have almost sold out in their various branches.

Without disclosing how many tickets they have sold so far, she told Nyasa Times on Monday: “We have almost sold out [and] we’ll most likely sell out by mid day tomorrow [Tuesday.”

“The expectation among Malawians is of a great event and high quality performance not just from Zahara but also from Wambali,” she said.

Added Kachingwe-Sisya: “Standard Bank looks forward to an exciting and truly memorable first ever Joy of Jazz Concert in Malawi.”

Zahara is an award-winning singer who scooped eight awards at the 2012 South African Music Awards with her debut album ‘Loliwe’.

She recently performed in Zimbabwe and was one of the headliners at the African Unplugged music festival in the United Kingdom last month.
