Zimbabwe to lit up Malawi poll centres: MEC to borrow gas lamps

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has planned to borrow gas lamps and tents from Zimbabwe.

Speaking in Lilongwe on Friday, MEC Chairperson Justice Maxon Mbendera said the gas lamps will be used in remote areas.

“The gas lamps were observed during the past elections in Zimbabwe where  hey were effective and provided excellenct lighting to the voting process,” said Mbendera.

Mbendera said the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has agreed to lend MEC 10,500 gas lamps and 350 tents for polling.
