Mwai Kumwenda, NAM standoff continues

Malawi Queens shooter and star power Mwai Kumwenda’s return to the national team squad depends on Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) addressing the welfare issues the player raised her legal advisorHlupikire Phiri Chalamba has said.

Mwai Kumwenda: Issues not resolved

Chalamba said the New Zealand based star was ready and willing to return to Malawi Queens
only if the welfare issues were addressed.

“It’s not that she is turning her back on the team but she wants things to change. She still wants to play for the team but not under present conditions,” Chalamba told the local press.

Nam general secretary Carol Bapu said the shooter was going to return to Malawi Queens fold after the association and the players agreed to resolve their differences.

But Chalamba accused Nam of rushing to the media “before sorting out the issue”.

The Malawi Queens will soon regroup for this year’s Netball World Cup slated for August in Sydney, Australia.

The Queens are in the same group with Singapore, Sri Lanka and bitter rivals South Africa.

Kkkkkk Mwai is right, let her grievances be resolved.

  2. Mlakho says:

As far as Mwai is being difficult NAM should also look at its picture. Nam should put its house in older. Do not just look at one side.

  3. WOYERA KAMANGA says:

KODI KA MWAI,MWAYI,MWAYIWAO KAYA MUMAKATCHA KA NDANI NETBALL IS A SPORT AS SUCH THERE IS NO NEED FOR HER TO GET PAID BUT BCOZ OF LENIENCE THAT IS THE REASON SHE IS ON PAYROLL E.G WOMEN ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO GET PAID WHEN HAVING SEX BCOZ SEX IS AN ENCOUNTER WHICH SERVES MUTUAL ENJOYMENT FOR BOTH PARTIES KOMA THAT MONEY IS SUPPOSED TO BE USED TO BUY SOAP AND POWDER BUT IN TRUE SENSE IT IS WAS DESIGNED TO BE FREE…….

  4. Agogo says:

Just let her go you NAM …i forsee no future in her….. Osamazimva mukangochemereredwa muzapwetekesedwa

  6. John says:

At first I was supporting Mwayi but now she has gone beyond! Do you expect NAM to kneel down before you, Mwayi. Kholo lingalakwe maka, silimachita kubwera poyera kupepesa. The gesture shown by NAM was enough and if Mwayi refuses, let her get lost. Hlupekire wakunamiza.

  7. pepa says:

A mwayi mwanena tamva wait for the employer now to look into the issue ,that is what is known as administration. You can not win a lone battle player samakula uposa dziko we are behind you but your approach now yatitopetsa.

  8. Phodogoma says:

The issue that Mwai is a best player its a fact not a point. That is why Malwi is crying for her. She sould not destroy her reputation. Good skills and working with team work pays. Look at Matsa and Kayuni. Where are they? This is because they comitted and their commitment has paid them. They are employed because of boxing skills. No body would appreciated to lose good player of Mwai caliber in future when Mwai becomes old to jump in netball ground. This is when she will need NAM. Please Malawians are watching not only NAM members. Chalamba don’t smile you are a bad advisor to Mwai. SHE WILL REGRET ONE DAY IN FUTURE.

    Letter to G Man

This is Mwai’s battle against NAM in particular and Malawi Government in general. If not then why only Mwai fighting. Is she the strongest player in queens. At least she could convinced her friends to stand against NAM for quick response. Not as what Mwai is doing. She is personalising herslf. But she has know that one day or the other she need Malawi. She is growing. She can not be netballer for ever. Time will come when she will need even to be coach for NAM. I dont think with her such mindset any governemnt official will look at her as a potential candidate for NAM post. Believe me, Mwai is writing a very bad record for herself. No matter what NAM one day will retaliate with retaliation that Mwai will feel it. This is the dziko lapansi limatha kuyanja lichero kusiya jemba limene limatipula munda.

Unfortunately Mwai and Hlipuka are just going for fame not for a good course. Sooner or later we will see who will regret. Every battle has a winer or a loser. At times one be a winer today and be a loser tomorrow. look at boko haram. today bokoharam is being killed. Yes retreating from Nigerian soldiers plus those from other countries.

Its a matter of time for NAM to say enough is enough . Mwai do whatever is good for you. And you are no longer a professional netballer for Malawi but just a player for where you playing.

  11. Isaac says:

look at the statistics for the national netball team on the games malawi has played without mwayi and judge for yourself whethet we need mwayi or not.osamangopereka maganizo wothout forst of all analysing the situatiuon at hand.nam has realised that if they continue to play games without mwayi the team will continue to lose and eventually the whole nation will rise against them because in as far as netball is concerned we are not used to losing.

  12. G man says:

This is not Mwawi’s war but she is fighting for the whole team and the truth is there. She has money. But Nam is not doing good here, for a team to perform well player’s welfare need to be considered. Think before you target your insults on Mwawi

  13. Kacherekhwanya says:

Tamva kokwanira za Mwawi Kumwenda. Musiyeni ayendere yake. Malawi netball queens akhoza kumagonja panopo ndi matimu ena koma that’s the way to go if you want to build that team. Keep on rebuilding the team through coaching the young comers. They will make up a good team soon. Musalimbanenso ndi Mwayi. Ndisazamvenso. Stupid!

  18. ahoy says:

Let Mwayi go. Ationjeza. Kunali aMary waya anasiya kuna bwera ena. Musiyeni uyu others will have a chance to showcase their talent

  19. Djomba says:

Can someone from.above summon NAM to sort out this issue once for all? As far as I am concerned Malawians in whatever authority never want to learn new ideas. We all knoe that Mwai as a professional player on a country like Australia has broad experience which should could share not only with her fellow players but more importantly NAM. However, in an environment where NAM does not want to learn, things are at standoff…..NAM should accept the fact that they will have to learn and adopt new ideas and approaches one of them being how to handle players ensuring their well being etc. The problem of leaving Mwai behind is that the team will loose miserably cause shame to the entire nation. Please do sth….

  20. Charger cha mutu waung'ono says:

Iwe Mwayi usationjeze wamva.Ngati sukufuna ongonena kuti wasiya kusewera ma national team.Usamatinamize kuti u are fighting for other players, bwanji ma player amene umati ukuwayimilirawo amapita ku camp akayitanidwa? Mwakaona mayiko azungu mwayamba matama?..There are serious players kunjaku but when it comes to play for the nation team they dont think twice coz they do it for pride even when it means recieving less than what their respective clubs give them.Usiyiletu zimenezo

Zodyerana masuku pamutu zinatha. Nkhalamba ngati a chinunda amafuna zopondelezana.

  22. Zadziwika says:

Let her stay away! Who and what does she think she is in the Queens squad??? The Queens squad will ALWAYS be there with or without her, WINS or LOSSES!! Her lawyer may be ill-advising her for other “interests” in her!

  23. Kafyala says:

When a wife goes back to her parents because of the husband’s illtreatment, she,if she is wise, asks for illtreatment to stop if the husband wants her back. Failing to address her concerns will make her look adamant though still loves her husband and marriage. The onus is on the to change for the better

  24. chris says:

Malawi is above Mwai.osamunyengerera uyu.let us continue using the team that is there now.playing professional netball in New Zealand should not make her feel big

  25. big man wamkulu says:

inu basi mwatikwana. ndizingati kodi ndikupatseni ineyo?

  26. Mphwache says:

Mwai is not fighting for her own benefits, but that of her fellow players. Mwai finds herself in a situation where sometimes she has to help out a fellow player who maybe wanted to buy something, say a phone, but NAM has not paid out players allowances. She finds this situation deplorable and not conducive to players playing as a team. Why are the girls not getting their allowances, and when they get them they have been debased. Most of these girls have no job, their only source of income is playing netball. NAM certainly knows something ANC is not telling.

  27. Rodriguas Latata says:

Pay the girls. Period. Bapu don’t divert the issue here; it’s not that NAM has direct issues with Mwawi but the entire team(girls) and it’s about their moneis dating back in the years. Don’t buy symphathy by demonising one girl, Mwawi who is speaking for the girls. Pay them please. Whoever chewed their monies be made to vomoit it so that you pay them. Playing for the nation is not slaverly.

  28. Chimidzi says:

I knew there was an ego behind all this. Teams must rise more than individuals, let her go for good.

  31. Charter says:

It does seem the Queens coach is the real issue here. Since she retired from the pitch she may be feeling someone is taking the limelight from her. This is where NAM has to show leadership.

  32. Mmodziyekha says:

    abwele ali ball!

  33. Nam should solve this matter in office

  34. mavuto says:

don’t abuse ur powers NAM, Resolve money issue first, u r interested party so u should not judge mwai
