Mwai Kumwenda, NAM standoff continues

Malawi Queens shooter and star power Mwai Kumwenda’s return to the national team squad depends on Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) addressing the welfare issues the player raised her legal advisorHlupikire Phiri Chalamba has said.

Mwai Kumwenda: Issues not resolved

Chalamba said the New Zealand based star was ready and willing to return to Malawi Queens
only if the welfare issues were addressed.

“It’s not that she is turning her back on the team but she wants things to change. She still wants to play for the team but not under present conditions,” Chalamba told the local press.

Nam general secretary Carol Bapu said the shooter was going to return to Malawi Queens fold after the association and the players agreed to resolve their differences.

But Chalamba accused Nam of rushing to the media “before sorting out the issue”.

The Malawi Queens will soon regroup for this year’s Netball World Cup slated for August in Sydney, Australia.

The Queens are in the same group with Singapore, Sri Lanka and bitter rivals South Africa.

As far as Mwai is being difficult NAM should also look at its picture. Nam should put its house in older. Do not just look at one side.

At first I was supporting Mwayi but now she has gone beyond! Do you expect NAM to kneel down before you, Mwayi. Kholo lingalakwe maka, silimachita kubwera poyera kupepesa. The gesture shown by NAM was enough and if Mwayi refuses, let her get lost. Hlupekire wakunamiza.

The issue that Mwai is a best player its a fact not a point. That is why Malwi is crying for her. She sould not destroy her reputation. Good skills and working with team work pays. Look at Matsa and Kayuni. Where are they? This is because they comitted and their commitment has paid them. They are employed because of boxing skills. No body would appreciated to lose good player of Mwai caliber in future when Mwai becomes old to jump in netball ground. This is when she will need NAM. Please Malawians are watching not only NAM members. Chalamba… Read more »

Letter to G Man This is Mwai’s battle against NAM in particular and Malawi Government in general. If not then why only Mwai fighting. Is she the strongest player in queens. At least she could convinced her friends to stand against NAM for quick response. Not as what Mwai is doing. She is personalising herslf. But she has know that one day or the other she need Malawi. She is growing. She can not be netballer for ever. Time will come when she will need even to be coach for NAM. I dont think with her such mindset any governemnt… Read more »
