11 pupils injured as makeshift classroom fell on them

Eleven pupils were injured on Wednesday when a makeshift classroom at M’buka primary School in Lilongwe fell on them.

Makeshift class collapse

The pupils were immediately evacuated to Bwaila Hospital for treatment.

The hospital officials said the pupils were treated as outpatients.

The roof fell on the few children who were waiting for their teacher to bign the day’s lessons.

Parents expressed concerns over poorly-constructed classrooms that puts the lives of learners at risk.

Head teacher Jefferson Tambala claimed that the corrugated iron sheets roof  standing on metal bars , collapsed due to “unruly” children  who regularly shake up the structure when playing.

He said building additional classrooms will be of benefit to the school.

Promising to build stadia for sporting that is a thorn to the eyes of most Malawians yet innocent souls are impaired and lost due to poor education infrastructures. How can a father focus on buying play toys for his kids yet neglecting their basic needs.
