11 pupils injured as makeshift classroom fell on them
Eleven pupils were injured on Wednesday when a makeshift classroom at M’buka primary School in Lilongwe fell on them.
The pupils were immediately evacuated to Bwaila Hospital for treatment.
The hospital officials said the pupils were treated as outpatients.
The roof fell on the few children who were waiting for their teacher to bign the day’s lessons.
Parents expressed concerns over poorly-constructed classrooms that puts the lives of learners at risk.
Head teacher Jefferson Tambala claimed that the corrugated iron sheets roof standing on metal bars , collapsed due to “unruly” children who regularly shake up the structure when playing.
He said building additional classrooms will be of benefit to the school.
