3 police officers in custody for failure to account an official rifle

Just days after a police officer was sentenced to two and half years for failure to account for an official rifle, law enforcers in Karonga have arrested three police officers on the same.

Police in Karonga said the three police officers, sergents Maleta, Baluti and Chikoti failed to ccount for the rifle AK2C during handovers.

The law enforcers said the rifle had 13 rounds of ammunition which cannot be traced as well.

This puts Karonga in a dangerous situation as the rifle and ammunition may have ended up in the hands of armed thugs who might be terrorising the border district.

The police also recently arrested Mzuzu State House guards for allegedly lending their official guns to armed robbers for a fee.

A senior presidential guard during Bingu wa Mutharika administration, Mpaso was arrested for losing his official gun at Bwandiro, a popular drinking joint in Lilongwe.
