67 illegal workers from India arrested in Malawi sugar factory raid
The Immigration Department officials arrested a group of 67 illegal workers – all Indian national – at the Salima Sugar Factory for working without work permits. during a raid on Wednesday barely a day after Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda paid a surprise visit to the factory .
The immigration officers surrounded the Salima Sugar Factory following Minister Chimwendo Banda’s discovery that Indian nationals were working without work permits as required by law.
They guarded all exits at the premises in to make sure no one escaped during the raid.
After questioning the occupants and checking identity documents, officers arrested 60 men on suspicion of working illegally.
Spokesperson for Immigration Department in Central Region, Elack Banda, said those arrested are male Indians who came into the country mid June and have been working without employment permits.
He said this is against section 21(1) of the Immigration Act , which require foreign nationals working in Malawi to have an employment permit.
Salima Sugar Factory is a public limited company with 60 percent of its shares held by the Aum Sugar Company Limited of India and 40 percent of its shares are held by the government of Malawi under Greenbelt Authority.

We deserve fair conditions of work. what they should know is that if they they see us working its not that we are ok with all the terms and conditions. as we dont have choices. all these people have application files at immigration but as usual the guys are working on them because they have to make deals with people from the ministry and the bank where they issue fake receipts and pocket the money and then the ministry officials issue permits and thereafter share the money. Medi is much into the permit deals and Msisha is his errand boy. Investigate about this permit deal and also find out from Chidothe on this because he was once arrested.

A lot of Indians pour in to the country by the day through daresalaam an average of 15 Bangladesh and Pakistan nationals connecting with malawi airlines, then stay in Blantyre after bribing immigration officers . After some time when they settle invite their families or they acquire enough money to buy their way to MALAWIAN passports and go to sa on the 30 day allowance. Then they overstay and settle there. These people will tamper with our visa free entry right in South Africa soon.

We have fourty registered charity organizations helping the poor indegenious Malawians. The funding is from wealth tax which the Muslims have to pay and some of the funding also comes from South Africa. At the moment as I speak now there are over 100 indegenious Malawians studying abroad becoming doctors lawyers accountants nurses teachers all funded by Asians. If you Malawians were running this charitable organizations the poor Malawians wouldn’t see a cent of the money. as for you guys it doesn’t matter whether the money is meant for poor people. He has been employing hundreds of people to do his shady projects but he has been locked in despite poor Malawians benefiting out of it. We condemned him in totality. So whether it is a Malawian or an Asian if you’re involved in scrupulous activities, we will not blow trumpets to praise you. I concur, make rounds in all the Indian companies, there are plenty of them. On the other hand our immigration officers are the ones who give them working permits despite that they are not fit for those jobs. You will find out that in their files they indicate as if they are Engineers yet they are just Indian guards in the factories.
