Malawian athlete wins bronze marathon in South Africa
Malawian athlete Chiyembekezo Jamali won bronze in Fasolburg Marathon in Johannesburg in South Africa on Saturday in 2 hours 31 minutes.
Jamali, who is based in South Africa runner the race under the banner of a 32 GI club which, spotted him after impressing in a half marathon November last year.
His coach Frans Chauke is impressed with the Malawian’s exploits and has arranged for a training camp for a high profile Free State marathon.
“He came and right now is going for training in Mpungalanga for a big event in April,” Chauke said.
The coach had predicted that Chiyembekezo could become a big star in the sport having shown potential.
“He is young and a good athlete. But lacks mileage we will manage to make him a world class,” he added.
The athlete was one of the dedicated athletes before going to South Africa to seek greener pasture and he managed after he was offered a clearance.
His manager Tseko Mtsekezen, who pushed for his clearance, said he would like to offer the athlete a chance to compete in many athletes.
His local manager Mzee Makawa commended the club for recruiting him as it responsible for expenses to enable him to compete.
“The club is taking care of competition fees and also meeting the cost of the athlete’s preparation,” Makawa said.
Makawa said his future is brighter because he would be able to compete in many competitions which attract high profile athletes thereby exposing him do better do better.
