Nomads travel North in bid to maintain their lead: Malawi TNM Super League

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers next match, after their emphatic 5-1 win over Moyale on Wednesday at Balaka Stadium, is away at Mzuzu Stadium against Mzuni FC on Sunday in their bid to maintain their lead of the first round of the 2017 TNM Super League season.

Wanderers are pace setters

Goals from Isaac Kaliati, Joseph Kamwendo, Jaffalie Chande and two from Peter Wadabwa saw the Nomads reclaim the top spot they momentarily lost to Silver Strikers last weekend in which they were on bye to fulfil their Carlsberg Cup fixture.

With two games left to wrap up their first round assignments, the Nomads now have 31 points from 13 games of 10 wins, one draw and two losses. They are three points ahead of second-placed Silver Strikers, who also have two more games to finish the first round.

Silver have 29 points and they date Civil Sporting at Civo Stadium also on Sunday in the race for the first round leadership.

What is fascinating of the Bankers is that they haven’t lost a match in their 13 games of eight wins and five draws.

Nyasa Big Bullets dislodged Civil Sporting from the third position after beating Red Lions 1-0 at MDC Stadium on Wednesday in the other midweek fixture.

The Bullets, who have 24 points from 13 games of seven wins, three draws and three loss, are at home again on Saturday when they host 11th-placed Mafco.

Struggling defending champions Kamuzu Barracks host 8th-placed Wizards at Civo Stadium on Saturday. The soldiers are on position 11 with 18 points from 14 games.
Dubbed, Leicester City of Malawi after the English Premier League side who failed to make their mark in the next season after clinching the Premiership title two seasons ago, Kamuzu Barracks have won just five matches, drew three and lost six games.

Saturday game against Wizards if their last game of the first round. The best they can achieve in the second round is to fight to be in the top eight to compete for the lucrative Airtel Top 8 Cup at the end of the season.

The race is tight for the first round leadership as Moyale tie on 22 points with Civil Sporting while Blue Eagles are 6th on 21 points.

Other games are Blue Eagles v Moyale at Nankhaka on Saturday while on Sunday, Red Lions host fellow soldiers Mafco at Balaka Stadium.

In the relegation zone are three Uniteds — Dwangwa and promoted sides Blantre and Chitipa. They tie on 11 points and are separated by goal difference with Blantyre on 14th, Dwangwa on 15th and Chitipa on 16th.
They all have finished their first round assignments.
