The bench  for Wizards looked very miserable as there was only a single substitute in the name of Wanipa Gondwe, who is a goalkeeper.

Wizards’ identity of beautiful passing game on the floor could not in any way be overshadowed as they kept fans cheering on top of their voices, following their excellent touches on the ball but never could they hit the piece of leather into the back of the students’ net for the entire 90 minutes.

Ten minutes into the game, a powerful header by Mzuni’s Wakisa Mweningube was parried away for a corner.

Four minutes later, the visitors could have been gifted a goal when defender Bob Longwe almost headed the ball into his own net but goalkeeper Happy Msowoya was alert to save the students when he tipped the ball over the cross bar.

The students took the lead in the 18th minute through a left footed low free kick from way out by mid field maestro Lazarus Deco Nyemera.

Substitute Timothy Silwimba increased the lead four minutes before recess.

In the second half, the visitors continued with their exciting and entertaining football and the excellent footwork of Yamikani Osman on the left flank and Frank Mulimanjira in the middle of the park gave many spectators a lot to talk about.

Silwimba completed his brace on the dot of 90 minutes for the game to end 3 nil in favour of the Green Intellectuals.

Speaking to Nyasa Times after the match, care taker coach for Wizards, Simeon Kapuza accepted defeat by saying it wasn’t his team’s day.

Assistant coach for Mzuni FC, Ogrieve Macnebert Kazuwa, said the game was tough but his side had good preparation.

“The bad record of losing very first games in cup competitions is now gone and it feels good. We hope to do better in this tournament,” added Kazuwa.
