Lilongwe Water Board procures mobile water treatment plant
The Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) has procured a state-of-the-art mobile water treatment plant which will complement its efforts during water supply emergency situations, and can be used to produce bottled water.
According to the Board, the plant has been supplied by Paramount Holdings Limited.
LWB is expecting to use the plant at the time of disaster and emergency situations such as critical water supply interruptions, total shutdown of one of the Board’s water treatment plants, and during water rationing program.
“With enclosed truck trailer for vehicular towing, the plant can operate anywhere even in locations with no access to electricity as it has an inbuilt diesel- driven power generator, but it can also be connected to electricity power grid,” reads in part the statement from the company.
The mobile water treatment plant has facilities to be used for purification of water for bottling and can treat water from any source including rivers and streams.
It is expected to help the Lilongwe Water Board meet supply demands for critical institutions such as hospitals during water supply shortage due to, among others, low water levels and other emerging crisis; and it will complement the usual usage of water bowsers.
The plant is considered as first of its kind in Malawi.
Recently, the Board adopted innovative pre-paid water metering system to improve its service delivery.
The metering system is an upgrade from post-paid metering system which the Board has been using since its establishment in 1947
