Prophet Bushiri feast of Easter feeds over 2000 families in Malawi: On nationwide charity

South Africa-based Malawian prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) on Thursday kick-started his nationwide charity programme in Malawi by feeding over 2000 families affected by disasters in the poor township of Mtsiriza in the capital Lilongwe.

In Malawi, a family consists an average 5.5 people; to mean, his gesture managed to reach to more than 11 000 people.

Most Malawians are currently reeling from aftershocks of disaster induced food shortages as some had their crops swept away floods, some had them wilted in the sun, while others had their houses damaged.

These most affected have been the urban poor who, apart from the rural poor, are barely supported by any form of social protection from government.

Prophet Bushiri’s gesture, hence, comes as a great relief to these urban poor folks who, in search of recovery from these shocks, turns either into streets or, if worse comes the worst, to crime.

One of the beneficiaries, 56 year old Esmie Chiwalo, a widow of six, could not hide her tears of joy when got home with 4 bags of maize for her family.

She is one of the 600 people in Mtsiriza, Lilongwe City, whose house was completely damaged due to strong winds. All her properties, including food items, were destroyed.

Chiwalo is now sleeping rough in a small kitchen of her friend and having a meal has been quite a challenge. About 150 000 bags of maize has already bought to be distributed nationwide.

“At least, my children with find sleep now. I thank God for Prophet Bushiri. God should protect this man,” she said.

In an interview, Prophet Bushiri said it has always been his calling to reach out to the less fortunate both physically and spiritual.

“I do this every year. In fact I will keep doing. My heart never rests when a child of God I can help goes to bed without sleep,” he said.

He added he lives a full circle Christian life because he doesn’t just preach love on the pulpit but he also practices it. Bushiri, then, called on the Malawians to emulate his spirit.

The exercise continues this Good Friday in Salima where about 3000 families will also benefit from receiving relief maize.

  1. Worders shall never end. all we need is prayers for God to give us wisdom. He is still sitting on the throne he will deliver in Jesus name.

  2. Anthu ena mumaoneka ngati anzeru chifukwa choti mukulemba muchizungu but in actual sense ndinu mbutuma, sukulu sinakupindulireni. These people were affected by natural disasters and ofcoz the government tried its part to intervene through the Vice President. If you say political leaders have reduced people to beggars can you justify? Were the floods brought by politicians?

    PLEASE PAC

    THIS COUNTRY

    LET’S HUMBLE OURSELVES

  4. Next time, assist people who fail to reconstruct their houses or those who can, to start small businesses. These handouts are only good for a while and for your own publicity.

    1. Akulu ndinu opusa zedi, inuyo mwaonako anthu ovutika, munachitako chani? He is practising the real Christianity ,mukulankhula ngati simupita ku church bwanji?

  5. Political leaders and more especially the president should watch this (Bushiri distributing food to what I would describe as beggars). This is what you have reduced your own ordinary people to, beggars……a group of hungry families willing to queue for a bag of maize from Bushiri. How do you really sleep at night. This is an indictment on our political leaders. Any political leader or leader at all, who goes to some poorly constructed podium, shouting on top of his voice, saying that Malawi is in good space since independence or since DPP, UDF or PP took over, should just bury their heads in shame. This is not normal, Malawi has psychopaths disguised as liberators. Can someone rise up and rescue Malawi from all these so called political leaders. God Save Malawi

      1. Bambo Chifundo, the sick are dying in hospitals due lack of drugs; 40% of the youth remain unemployed; people dying of hunger. All these are not natural disasters. As a survival instinct, people have resorted to begging to survive. They need money to buy drugs and to buy food but unfortunately they are unemployed. If you don’t understand the link Chifundo, there’s nothing I can do to make you see the light. I don’t know what’s blidning to see the reality, for what it is. Mukuimbira mfiti m’manja. Ana akufa mzipatalamu, because makolo alibe ndalama zogulira mankhwala olo zogulira zakudya. Malnutrition in children is one of the biggest causes of impaired cognitive and analytical skills. It is for this reason that most of Malawians (in the rural areas) are unable to critically understand the problems they’re facing and how best to solve them. It is now become the strategy of politicians to keep children hungry and malnutritioned because it will be easier to manipulate them when they’re grown up. You need to wake up bamboo Chifundo.

  6. Thanks a million to you Bushiri, Malawi needs people and leaders who can feel the pain and suffering of other human beings especially the poor. Change is actually what you can feel on your skin or in your stomach not just empty-sweet-nothings from politicians. How could someone claim to develop the country beyond recognition when a single natural disaster wrecks the lives of innocent people like that? Go to developed countries and see how many disasters knocks them every year but people don’t suffer like the way Malawians do.

  7. Well done man of God. Ng’ona zimanyoza zija zili kuti? God’s time is always the best. The righteous always wait for God’s time.

  8. DID HE USE PEOPLE’S PARTY TRUCK? IF HE IS DOING IN GOOD FAITH, I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH HIM BUT IF HE HAS BEEN SENT BY DPP, THEN I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH HIM.

    1. Inunsotu a Hetherwick, chilichonse cha orange basi ndi peoples party, why politicising everything?

      1. The Bible say “the poor will never cease from your land, do not ignore them, help them. That’s exactly what you are doing my Papa. May the Almighty God reward you with more and more blessings.

    2. He does the same in other countries my friend, Malawians but why always mumakhala ndi negative attitude towards this Man of God? What you should know is that tikutsalira
