Bullets pip musicians in Zigoma fundraiser
Malawi musicians on Saturday left their music instruments to put on football boots and play against one of the soccer against Big Bullets FC at Kamuzu Stadium to raise money to be donated to their fellow musician Geoffry Zigoma, who needs to undergo treatment in Tanzania of cancer of the ear.
The musicians, who included Black Missionaries trio of Anjiru and Chizondi Fumulani together with Peter Amidu lost the game 0-4.
They raised false hopes starting on a high note with the vocal ganyu Mighty ‘Nyerere’ Wanderers supporting them.
The musicians defended well in the first 20 minutes with the likes of Amidu, Moda Mayuni marshaling the defence tightly.
However, they lacked the finishing tune in front where Anjiru and Mkakeni Kaunda were operating.
Bullets which featured their three key players like their first choice goalkeeper Vincent Gona, Fischer ‘Anong’a’ Kondowe and Charles Kalaile, could have netted more goals in the first half but the musician’s goaltender Yusuf Kanyumba was too good for Bullets strikers.
Ian Chinyama opened the score sheetfor Bullets and they led 1-0 at half time.
After break, Chinyama hammered another two goals before Dan Sikenala nailed the last nail on the musician’s coffin.
Geoffrey Zigoma, who was also present with his wife as the guest of honor thanked his fellow musicians and Big Bullets for a good gesture.
“I am very happy and God should bless them for what they have done to me. The money raised will help me a lot in paying bills at the hospital,” said Zigoma.
Some of the notable musicians, who were featured during the game were Mlaka Maliro, Katelela Ching’oma, Collen Ali, Peter Amidu, Anjiru Fumulani, Chizondi Fumulani, Masiye Kansaru aka Maskal, Limbani Kalirani aka Tay-Grin, Lawrence Nkhwisa aka Lulu, Lloyd Phiri, Mkakeni Kaunda.
