The Chinese Government has donated 10 desktop computers to the Ministry of Defense to enable the ministry address information community and technology (ICT) deficiencies in storing and accessing emerging issues defence and security.
The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Liu Hongyang, handed over the computers through Deputy Minister of Defense Amosi Mailosi at Capital Hill on Monday.
Hongyang said his office donated the computers following a request the ministry made to the Chinese Embassy in Malawi.
“We have computers and felt we should give some to the Ministry of Defense to enhance the ministry’s capabilities in serving the people of Malawi. We will always provide the support whenever there is a need,” he said.

“This development requires us to automate our systems and operations, which need improved ICT equipment and services to happen. Actually, we need to buy 200 computers that we must distribute in all MDF establishments across the country,” said Mailosi.

There is no harm receiving computers from China. In fact as a country most of the weapons not simple things like computers are donations from those country which are in partnership with us. Military people go and train with these powerful countries. So what will they spy that they don’t know already? Guys rich people can’t spy on poor people they are already training. Lets get worried if its another poor country not people who are giving weapons
Koma akulu, kungozolowera kupempha basi?? Kodi we cant for once take pride in our ability?? Very stupid. You mean simukuona zamanyazi kuunjikana nkumanyadira mutapempha nkugayiridwa ma computer 10?
Stupid
That Bingu statue would buy you 144 computers. If purchased from 10 SMEs, 10 of them could have earned atleast 6.3 Million kwacha, which could impact atleast 50 families! And could have saved ma kwacha a ma allowance a anthu anuwo.
Already apart from the two chinas seated, the 11 maravis have squandered not less than a million kwacha to make that useless photo session and handover ceremony…an amount equal to 2 of the 10 computers! Ufiti basi
Extremely dangerous to accept and use Chinese computers in security organization.
True
Our borders are already porous, gone will also be whatever remains of our cyber walls and security. Look beyond the horizon Malawi!
Bwana reporter, Ministry of Defence is not necessarily the same as Malawi Defence Force. I would have been worried if it was General Supuni publicising a donation of 10 computers to the millitary as such would be demeaning to the men in uniform.
Its matters of national security so I don’t see the difference.
Koma guys, news zimenezi? Kungoonetsa inadequacy in our defense force, then China chomwe tilibe ndichani, mutiuza?
It’s news in Malawi when a foreign power donates 10 computers to be used for spying on the hapless impoverished friend. This donation going specifically to Defence ministry will enable China to snoop into the activities of Malawi using pre installed programs that operate without being detected. The clueless MDF officers and civilians at Defence are busy praising China for this gesture not knowing we are now in the age of cyber wars. Malawi, what will it take to wake up?? Muzafa ndikususuka! Kukonda zolandira.
Extremely dangerous indeed
Computer donations to a security institution!!!!!!! From China for that matter. My foot!!!!!!!
Much as the donation from China is appreciated, government should trade carefully with where the computers are used. It is a known fact that the Chinese are a dangerous species when it comes to snooping on or stealing top secret data from other governments around the world. Look up Huawei and security concerns on the internet, for instance, you will understand these dudes are up to something sinister. Security conscious minded people can only guess the amount of malicious bots planted on the donated computers, and to hear that these will be used by the country’s military force is unthinkable.… Read more »
