Chakwera to resign as member of parliament
Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera is expected to tender his resigned as member of Parliament (MP) for Lilongwe North West to comply with the Constitution before presenting his presidential nomination papers for May 19 2020 fresh presidential election as ordered by the Constitutional Court on February 3.
Chakwera’s impending resignation will be in line with constitutional requirements to vie for the office of the president.
Section 80 (7)(e) of the Constitution reads: “No person shall be eligible for nomination as a candidate for election as President or First Vice-President or for appointment as First-Vice President or Second Vice-President if that person is a holder of a public office or a member of Parliament unless that person first resigns.”
Speaker of National Assembly Catheren Gotani Hara will give a notice of vacancy of the seat in Lilongwe North West Constituency in accordance with Section 63 (2) of the Constitution.
If he loses the presidency in the fresh elections, Chakwera will hope to win his seat back to return to parliament through a bye-election.
Remember, at one point Chatsika, flew to Israel to seek divine intervention on the, now concluded, presidential elections case and from the look of things, god answered him positively. Perhaps he may consider to apply the same technique in order to sneak into Kamuzu Palace, though his chances seek to be limited.
Chakwera is the one to win the presidential elections enanu mngozivutitsa. Olo mtayesa chamtundu wanji sizitheka coz this man will be the president.

The good thing is that, a key message about it remains with Malawians!! After all you are not Malawi and shall never be Malawi………………….!! So lets wait and seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I want to differ with you, Man Chakwera is the man who is the leader, read the constitution, am surprised the writer has even show you where what Chakwera has taken his step from but if I may say by deliberately you skip or you are not understanding the story. Chakwera keeps the rule of law. He is a Malawian, born in Malawi, grown up in Malawi, what Chakwera is doing is a true reflection of leadership. Koma poti uchitsiru ndi umene wakula, maka maka mbali imeneyo,, haha kodi zoyenda zija mwamiliza?
I really don’t know about this guy, something makes me very uncomfortable
It’s simple and very simple, read the constitution. Your worry is nothing, look at it in this direction may be,, Chakwera is doing what the constitution says, meaning he is keeping the rules and laws of Malawi and follow them. There is nothing wrong with that, that’s what we call leadership.
What is in the pastor’s move that has to do with leadership since all he is doing is adhering to what is written in black and white? This is a no brainer. The guy has just lost it and that he is a confused dude. He feels he shouldn’t have gone to the courts coz it shows now that he doesn’t know his next step. Sorry aBikiloni!!
FOLO SUTI wachani nawenso LEGO.Munthu ukamachitsatila chitsilu, ife owona timati zonse ndi zitsilu.Iwe munthu, mmene umamuonela chatsika angakhale mtsogoleli wadzikolino laMalawi?
How do you defines Chitsiru? How can someone who is following the rules and laws of the Country can be called Chitsiru? If Chitsiru can be defined in this way, then those who sees that way, are more zitsiru,in this case you are more Chitsiru than Chakwera, since you have been seen zitsiru following each other. Zitsiru in my understanding they can stand against the rule of Law,they can demonstrate against the judgment, the can insult the judges, they can try to bribe judges. Brother these are zitsiru! You see now? Kikkkkkkkk! Kumazitsata zinthuzi.
Going by the way DPP is losing out on the political scene, one can conclude that very soon, Lilongwe North West Consituency will be another Thyolo East(Kwa Goliati) for the next 30 Years where there will Nsalu University of Science and Technology and a Chakwera Village, the late Bingu and Kamuzu style.Nsundwe Barracks will be a reality. Adadi akungonyenyedwanyenyedwa masiku ano.
Chakwera to “resigns”. This should be simple grammar for any journalist. Which schools do these Nyasatimes writers attend?Kuchititsa manyazi. Your DPP propaganda in broken English doesn’t work!
And I thought the ‘presidency’ is also a public office. So why doesn’t the president also resign before elections? I need to be schooled here.
The office of the President is never vacant…malamulo amatelo
He needs to resign as MCP leader as well, he is such a weak leader he can’t even unify his party
I pray that the supreme should cancel the rerun immediately he resigns. Good riddance this man is not a leader at all.
Been salary without working for 9 months. He only refunded 3m allowance at last minute. Nawo anthu aku Lilongwe North ngogontha mkhutu osamuchitila mademo zoona?
