Mutharika says ‘God bless DPP-UDF alliance’: To halt Malawi’s descent into abyss

President Peter Mutharika said his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) have formed an alliance to unite Malawians and develop the country.

President Mutharika with Atupele Muluzi: Our goal is to unite and develop this country
DPP and UDF supporters agree to unite and develop the country

Mutharika promised to work together to halt the country’s descent into the abyss following a divisive 2019  elections with some violent activities by  some opposition groups calculated  to turn the country into a lawless society.

The President  said he was “particularly glad” to welcome UDF brothers and sisters in reconstructing a nation that is responsive to the urgent need for prosperity.

“As you all know, we [DPP and UDF] belong to one family even though we had taken different paths.

“We hold similar values. We are both democratic, peaceful and development – oriented parties,” said Mutharika as he was clad in yellow UDF cap while his counterpart Atupele Muluzi was donning the DPP blue cap.

Mutharika said DPP and UDF share “similar aspiration” to improve the living standards of all Malawians in the country.

“We are determined to achieve this,” said Mutharika, further disclosing “we will work as an alliance as we discuss the possibility of a coalition.”

“Our goal is to unite and develop this country,” said Mutharika.

The President concluded his statement by saying: “May God bless the alliance.”

Political analysts have since touted UDF as a party that can add more value in terms of extra votes to DPP in the fresh presidential election.

Politicians use the name of God in order to tame the inquisiviness of the masses. Voitairre once said, ” If there is no God create one as a safety valve”. Do not be fooled by this God talk from Munthalika he is presiding over a corrupt and tribalistic regime. If you want God go to a good church , read your Bible and follow what it says. There is no way God can be partisan to bless DPP-UDF Alliance only and leave out the others. Just like football God does not support a team but blesses them all whether a… Read more »

Anyone who does not directly benefit from politics needs to take a look at themselves and think if this current government has done enough in serving the people of Malawi and not just a few individuals because of either tribal or political affiliations. It’s a shame that those that support the current government are at the bottom of the food chain and will gain nothing and continue to put their hopes on broken promises. People need to travel to other countries to appreciate how good governments serve their people.

A masterpiece! Those who have been advocating 50+1 are tearing each other apart because they are power hungry and evil. They are now busy bribing MPs, judges etc. Their Speaker has used underhand methods to pass electoral bill after failing to change the constitution.

A waste of time this is. Signs of desperation and surely this will not work as anticipated.

Muluzi once said: “…chubu chimenechi ndichiphwetsa…” – referring to Bingu when he deserted him and formed the much loved government mechanism during his first term.

We’ve to see what this union will yield because UDF may be reminiscing what happened to it in the past. I wish them well.
