Fuel tanker up in flames in Karonga
A fuel tanker registration number T879 DSL / T459 DMD which was en route to Lilongwe from Tanzania caught fire in the early hours of Thursday at Mwakamogho along the Songwe-Karonga M1 road.
Confirming the incident, Karonga Police Spokesperson, Enock Livason said the tanker which was loaded with 42, 000 liters of petrol developed a mechanical problem which led to tire binding and in the process the vehicle caught fire.
Livason said there was no any casualty as the driver of the vehicle, Michael Mwapase escaped from the vehicle without any injury.
Police have since commended the community around Mwakamogho for staying away from the burning vehicle.
“It is good that people refrained going close to the vehicle otherwise we would have registered deaths related to the accident,” said Livason.
Police reminds the general public against tampering with any vehicle which catches fires to avoid losing lives.

Shity DPP why are still using Oil Tankers instead of railways or build a pipe line like Zambia.
In this case definetely our country road is damaged by this accident,my question is who gona be held responsible for the damage caused on the road? with our archaic road laws the driver and the campany from which the truck belongs will just be let free to proceed with business as usual, which is contrary to what if the same accident happens in in Tanzaniaan roads and the vehicle involved being from foreign country, there the driver is imeaditely arrested and charged hefty penalty for damaging their road ,that’s how Tanzania Roads Authority works and they are not lenient on this their road laws are adhered to and to detail even just a drop of oil on their road you’re penalised if caught . Idoubt if these measures also applies in Malawi especially in our roads please school me if the same applies here.
