Sports minister Msungama says FA Malawi boss politically compromised
Newly- appointed Minister of Sports Ulemu Msungama has accused Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Mac Milan Walter Nyamilandu of being politically compromised for his active role in the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Nyamilandu has been accused of participating in politics associating with the DPP.
But the new Sports Minister Msungama said the head of local football governing body should be apolitical.
“FAM president is politically compromised. We have to develop football and he has to remember though his party lost power, the responsibility of managing the game is apolitical,” said Msungama.
“I do not hate Walter personally, but then constitutionally, Fifa and FAM do not allow its members to be actively involved in politics. We saw images of him [Nyamilandu] in political attire circulating on social media which does not augur well with his position.
“I am a straightforward person who calls a spade by its name. I was interested that being an intellectual, how could he use his powers to advance his personal interests? I looked at it that he is not fit to be FA president.”
Msungama said he will have a meeting with the FAM president to tell him to draw the line or else resign from his position.
His comments comes after renowned sports analyst Charles Nyirenda urged sports administrators not to associate themselves with partisan politics.
Nyirenda said he is confident that the new Head of State Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who once served as Chairperson for Malawi National Sports Council during the late Bingu wa Mutharika era will consider sports development in the country.
Nyamilandu, however, said as FAM, they serve government of the day.
Msungama can you compare yourself with Walter what is your education qualification if you were somebody we would have known you sometime back and which professional body do you belong on this earth.
He is a Minister, the boss to your big man!

This man called Nyamilandu President of Football Association of Malawi turned politician buy joining DPP. He is an ardent supporter of Mutharika regime and DPP. He has a biased mentality and Tonse Alliance government can not trust him to be a neutral FAM President.
The solution is to sack him moreover he has overstayed in his position because during elections every time he was buying votes or manipulated the system to favour him.
Moreover he has been a corrupt man and the President Chakwera should fire him for sanity of the Office.

Politics interference in soccer is prohibited by FIFA. Msungama is wasting his time as Nyamilandu will be unmoved.

Leave Walter alone. He is a professional and his rise to football administration stardom has nothing to do with politics or DPP. In fact as a FIFA council member he doesn’t need FAM, it’s the other way round. If MCP is hell bent at removing all proDPP members in particular and Southerners in general then it will confirm some of our fears that MCP will again return Malawi to a one party state. We allowed Kamuzu to be life president with only MCP as a legitimate political party zimajaji zili ndwii osaletsa come 1992 azungu atitsegula maso muli revolution.
In 2014 we return DPP to power after God paved way for Joyce Banda with her PP to lead us barely five years later mukuti revolution. We are a laughing stock surely.

Fifa is very clear, football management cannot be associated with politics or government. The same governments should not interfere with football management. Walter’s claim that FAM is associated with government of the day is foolish and shows his ignorance. So is he now mcp?
If he doesn’t resign, the government should report him to fifa so that a new Fam leader is appointed.
We do not appoint my friend. We elect. People have miserably failed before to dethrone Walter. Ask Mijiga. Ask Mwenda. Walter will leave on his accord.

I agree with you Msungama, We can’t keep Nyamilandu as our FA President. He openly showed the country that he was a DPP man. Sent to campaign in the football world. Because no one loves soccer in DPP.

The HRDC is also a non political but we saw them doing the same with MCP and utm. There is no position you can call non political, even ngos are now political as well as churches are political. Stop hating Walter, as an individual he has a party to follow. He was wearing party colour on his own time, not fam time. He never went to a fam meeting in a political colour. The point is that they must not serve any government . Just work hand in hand with sports ministry not serve the government.
Nsungama when you land at a ministry you need to study the culture before pointing fingers at anybody. Nyamilandu is way ahead of you in terms of football understanding hence he has been president for many years.

Walter should resign coz we’ve seen him siding or supporting dpp therefore because of this we need to amicably resign and pave way for others .
I was also very disappointed to learn that in the wake covid 19 funds that FIFA gave FAM Walter decided to be buying and supplying players with food stuff starter packs…..No No this has to stop ,give the players money not these rubbish things.

Walter, may you please explain what do you mean and how when you say FAM serves Government of the day, may be people would understand you. The MDF and Police serve Government of the day. Does it mean therefore that even if the Commander and Inpector General wear uniforms of the ruling party of the “Government of the day” , it is not an issue? I am just asking, i want to know. I have never seen the small letters in between the the sentences of FIFA rules.
