Aford would have preferred its MP Chihana to be Chakwera’s handclapper not critic
The Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has expressed dismay on the way its sole legislature, Yeremia Chihana reacted to President Lazarus Chakwera’s maiden State of National Address (SONA) in the House, saying his criticism were unwarranted.

Outposken Chihana, who is the legislature for Mzimba north constituency and relation to AFORD president, Enock Chihana, took a bold critique on Chakwera’s Sona.
He faulted Chakwera’s address, saying it largely does not represent Tonse alliance philosophy.
Chihana blew the whistle that there are number of corrupt activities done by ministers and some officials in the Chakwera administration.
“I am from Tonse alliance and so is AFORD. However, there are number of things needed to be added and removed in the SONA. Because it does not tackle many problems that Malawians are facing,” said Yeremia.
He also faulted President Chakwera for removing General Andrew Namathanga as the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Commander.
Namathanga played his role to ensure smooth transition of power from former president Peter Mutharika to the incumbent President.
Last week, President Chakwera fired Namathanga and replaced him with Vincent Nundwe who was dismissed in March by Chakwera’s predecessor, Mutharika.
“I am a close friend to general Nundwe but what the president did to fire Namathanga and redeploy Nundwe was unfair. The President need to learn to appreciate,” he added.
However, AFORD said such remarks does not represent the party view but the people of Mzimba north constituency.
In a statement released on 7 September, 2020 and signed by the party’s acting secretary general Grace Chupa, AFORD said it is rallying behind Chakwera as well as Tonse alliance policies.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the August House, Catherine Gotani Hara has asked Yeremia to bring the evidence of corruption done by Tonse alliance government on Thursday this week.

A wonderful Tumbuka who can’t be happy to see his fellow Tumbuka as Army General.
Chihana should know that many who write in his favour on this page are those from opposition party. With immediate effect the President of Malawi and his Vice President must not respond any word made by Chihana. This is the reason we can not rule this country because of the people like Chihana who wants to fatten up themselves. Ex -president ignored the North way back and this is the reason Mbombera University is not built. Go to South and you will see that many projects are finished during his reign.Chihana just wants to show off and yet he yields nothing.
What ever the case might be Chihana clan will never become any minister because of his crewed heart. When the South say that Mtumbuka will never be a president it meant a total insult of all the Tumbukas including Yelemiyayo. You are one MP for aford in Parliament and yet you make a lot of noise and dont even know what you really want to become. ATUMBUKAFE NDISE OTEMBEREREDWADI and yet we have better school. I am advising the President of the Republic NOT to bow down for Yelemiya Chihana.
The president can not dance to the tune of Mr Chihana at all and he is not shaken up. What the President did to remove your Army General is correct and there is no excuse on it. We the Tumbukas are so difficult to reasoning power. Not all the people of Malawi could be the minister as my fellow country man wanted. The immediate removal of Nundwe was so pathetic and it is important for the President and his Vice President to look into the matter as quickly as possible. Probably this Tonse Alliance syndrome will cause many issues to MCP/UTM parties. I have felt that your approach is poorly done and after all you are the only person representing the party which has been contesting for presidency for many years. LEKANI AKULU KUTIPANGISA SONI ISE.
Usually in normal life, truth will always pain. For the very fact that certain quarters within the alliance have started grumbling it shows Chihana touched a raw nerve in his SONA response. These are the problems we face as a teething democracy whenever someone tries to condemn mediocrity. We want everytime to clap, even when stupid ideas is dished out. That is not democracy per se. In a democracy people are free to criticise and at the same time having done that, they need to suggest reparation factors. The speaker is wrong to threaten a member for being objective. He said he sees some element of corruption; instead of telling him to bring the evidence all she should have done was to ask him to expound his assertions, period. A reminder MCP: we are in a multi-party democratic dispensation whereby every individual who rises to contribute has the right to be heard. One party practices were done with when Malawians said so.
Yeremia is not an ass locker, he confirms if he sees something is wrong. Well done Chihana
Mr Chihana what you have done is very wrong and the President cannot just woke up and appoint you as a Minister. He made several consultations with his Vice President who gives final response. He cannot create any ministry for the sake of one person.
Foseki
Chihana ni Chindele cha kufikapo
The is just bankrupt
So you want him to be following religiously without pointing out the obvious???? We don’t want to create another DPP by just clapping hands useless things. Those days are long gone.
Let us hope he brings the much awaited evidence of corruption this Thursday. The guy seems frustrated somehow
If he doesn’t them Chihana must face the consequences of of his actions
Tonse alliance has opposition within itself. Well done Hon Y Chihana. Speak out.
Chilima cannot speak anymore, chibanzi chili mkamwa.
This sounds like a tone of a bitter alliance partner? Probably but Hon Chihana you are in the alliance so why bring up the so called corruption issue in parliament first? Some people will never learn.
Nyau ikulephela kuvina, chowombela mmanja nchiani?
Enoch Chihana you are not even an MP. What Jeremiah Chihana did by speaking his mind and that is what MPs do every day in functioning. Looks like you want to behave like your father who destroyed Aford.
So now it will be if someone says this person or government is corrupt there in parliament u will be asked to bring evidence to parliament. Shame on ur Catherine
Principled man Yeremia
This guy has some brains in his head.
He thought he would be appointed a Minister. Chihana over rates himself.
A stupid and loose canon. I think he is a cadate
Well done Mr Chihana
Very brilliant speech, honestly i was impressed at how he responded, he is not even a hadn clapper
People will not just clap hands because the pastor has spoken. He is quite clueless. For starters, why did he advocate the building of houses for MPs in their constituencies? What is the use of all the manifesto promises the Tonse government made during the campaign when during the first two months of being in government they will abandon such promises and push for stupid appeasement policies.
2025 sikutali.Tiukuonerani.
Am slowly losing hope in a busa.Amenewa satithandiza.
Yes, he is a brave man. Gone are the days when people could just clap hands for mediocrity.
People from his constituency will never allow this boy to come back to Parliament again and this is the end of him.Come Tuesday and hear what he says about opposition. Yeremia has many stories and we all know it but as a boy from home we reserved them. The whole northern region is pleased with the Presidency and vice to come from the central region and above all they too married in the North. What a pride one should be. There are many projects that can be required in the Northern corridor and another power hungry person comes in. We have been insulted by the lhomwes for many years and when our opportunity comes in somebody talks shit.
dont just bark on internet, so u want to tell us that people have hated their MP for critiquing the SONA? u want him to be hand clapper for nothing?
Let him be a hand clapper in parliament like the rest of the MPS in the Tonse Alliance. This is a path we have to always take in this country which is still haunted by the legacy of the past. If Yeremiah wants to behave differently, the we the tumbuka who are prefer to be handclappers and bootlickers will vote him out as an MP in 2020 parliamentaryn elections
