Wanderers survive scare to beat Ntopwa
Mighty Wanderers came from behind to beat Ntopwa FC 4-1 on Wednesday at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Following the win, the Nomads have moved two places up to eight in the TNM Super League as they now have 16 points from 11 matches, eight points adrift of Civo United, who have played a game more.
Ntopwa gave the Lali Lubani Road outfit a scare when they first scored just after 30 minutes into the game through Hendrix Misinde.
But veteran striker Peter Wadabwa cancelled the lead two minutes before break before Nigerian towering striker Babatunde Adepoja added the second just before interval.
In the second half Wanderer sealed their victory with two more goals from Stanley Sanudi and substitute Isaac Kaliyati.
Ntopwa were awarded a penalty but Nomads goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa saved Mphatso Magaleta’s spot kick.
Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira said he was happy with charges for registering back-to back victories following their 3-0 triumph over Chitipa United on Saturday at the same venue.
“We expected Ntopwa to be tough and they made it very hard for us,” said MpinganjIra.
“We want to keep up the winning momentum,” he said.
Ntopwa technical director and club’s owner Isaac ‘Jomo’ Osman said: “We started very brightly, played great stuff, but the two goals in succession before half time knocked us back.”
In the 16-team top-flight league, Ntopwa are on 10th with 14 points from 12 matches , having won four, drawn two and lost six.
